Pretty much. The only thing that's odd is that the majority of the Levites had Egyptian names, and the Levite cities originally started as Egyptian administrative centers. We also know there were semitic slave laborers under Egyptian control in the Sinai desert who invented the phonetic alphabet. So I'd say there is a kernel of truth even if exactly what happened is really hard to figure out.
