Who here loves cartoons?
Who here loves cartoons?
Fuck cartoons, anime is better.
Fuck anime, cartoons is better.
I love them a lot which is why living in this era is like dying a slow death.
I do, but I’ve always found it curious that to my knowledge, the amount of actual “production” threads (i.e. how cartoons are actually made) are functionally nonexistent, despite the fact that credits listings are at the end of literally every animation ever
What would you like to discuss about it? Not like there’s really room to talk about sakuga like Anon Babble. Aesthetic intrigue is at an all time low.
Most people here are plotfags or characterfags. Production faggotry only comes up with noteworthy productions, like writer team changes, or aesthetically interesting works.

As someone that wants to make some small animations in the near-future just for personal fun, what's actually been on my mind is sound design as a whole, as in I've been wondering how many sound effects used in cartoons are just stock sounds (including modified ones) that you could just grab and use from anywhere vs. actually making them-in house, what's the typical equipment used for voice acting/recording sessions, what's the process used for producing music, that sort of thing
That’s a hyper niche production interest, but neat.
It's definitely very niche, but I think good sound design is one of those things that you might not dwell on at first, but it's crucial to actually creating the full experience
More Anon Babble related, but stuff like Final Fantasy Tactics and Starcraft I have sounds that are basically burnt into my brain forever and it just gets me wondering how they were all made

Audio is huge and unloved for sure. I can’t really speak on the topic my autism has not led me very far on that aspect. I do know about the one-man-show who pioneered the laugh track when researching Scooby-Doo but that’s really it.
Rugrats created a great aural identity for itself with those synth noises, first thing that came to my head. I don’t think a lot of production sound is original anymore but don’t quote me.
they're alright i guess
you think people here actually care about the way cartoons are made?
Only worthwhile cartoons. “Adult” cartoons, and your average calart loretoon doesn’t inspire intrigue at all.
Pfft. You think YOU love cartoons?

I do, but I think I finally understand the problem of multiple-choice paralysis
There’s a LOT of good cartoons, spanning tons of decades and genres and such, and that by itself isn’t too bad, but there’s also a LOT of good anime; there’s a LOT of good comics, video games, manga, films, live-action TV, literature, so on and so forth, and I go kind of crazy trying to narrow down what I should be interacting with at the moment (especially because I actually want to make a serious adventure webcomic on the side purely for fun but I have no idea what I “should” be reading or watching as narrative and/or artistic inspiration)
