just finished invincible comics (started reading from allen and nolan in prison arc).
Pretty sure i never saw any mention or follow up on dark blood.
is he an animation original? thought he was super interesting in the show and the season 3 finale implied they'll be doing more with him.

Barely Invincible, Mark gets fucked up pretty good in most REAL fights. Why isn't he purely invincible.

He was a throwaway joke in the comics. He only shows up for a couple panels, and only figures out who killed the Guardians after everyone else already knows.

The same thing can be said about a lot of comics and manga.

Oh the US gov invaded Japan over curses? They get cool tech and stuff to fight them?

They do nothing else for the rest of the story and have zero impact.

Which is the problem with stories like this if you have aliens, magic, and high tech and none of them bounce off one another without some form of explaining why one is obsolete then well it's just bad writing.

a demon sherlock holmes trying to buy his way out of hell by solving cases and bringing justice is an excellent pitch for its own comic even, wasting it on a gag is dumb.

Damien Darkblood is in a couple early issues of the comic but never followed up on. Kirkman said that he'd always had an idea for a 'hero journeys to hell' featuring Darkblood but didn't manage to make it happen in the book. The S3 stinger is meant to set up that story beat.

He appeared basically only in the first major arc and was just a classic detective type character who only existed to set up a punchline of him figuring out who killed the guardians AFTER Omni-Man and Mark fight. He never appeared in the main Invincible comic again after that, though he did appear in Astounding Wolf-Man

Originally the Mark vs Omni-Man fight was supposed to be in issue 25, but it got pushed up to drive comic sales. There's a theory among fans that he originally had a bit larger of a role in the comics but he just ended up being a loose end that got wrapped up quick with that punchline.

Kirkman has also separately stated that he planned on bringing Darkblood back in the comics in a "Mark goes to Hell" story because basically every superhero comic has done a similar kind of arc of going to hell.

Seems like the show is maybe gonna bring that to fruition? The show already made him better than he was in the comics, he actually posed a threat to Cecil's plans with his own investigation and he gave Debbie kind of a nudge to do her own research.
