SUPERMAN test-screening reports

Generally mixed reactions. The “very silly” tone has been divisive, with some loving it and others hating it.

The movie has an episodic structure, like a series of interlocked short stories rather than one continuous narrative.

David Corenswet is good as Superman; his performance has been described as similar to Brandon Routh’s in Superman Returns.

Lex Luthor is good as Lex Luthor, but overacts frequently, especially when Luthor gets angry.

Rachel Brosnahan steals the movie as Lois Lane and has excellent chemistry with Corenswet.

Krypto has an important role, but felt “artificial” and “tacked on”.

Lex Luthor’s sidekicks Eve and Otis are fun but superfluous.

There is a major subplot about Lois and Clark investigating Luthor’s involvement with an armed conflict in Eastern Europe.

There is a comedic subplot about Eve, a bombshell supermodel, falling head-over-heels in love with Jimmy Olsen, who can’t stand her.

Despite the massive cast, the movie balances all characters well.

Most of the scenes in the trailer are from the first act of the movie.

An A-lister actor makes an uncredited cameo as Superman’s Kryptonian father Jor-El.

The CGI during the kaiju fight and the scenes at the Fortress of Solitude was rough, but will likely be touched up for release.

No post-credits scenes, though they could add some for release like how Marvel usually does.

Current runtime is 140 minutes

Lex Luthor is good as Lex Luthor

Well, I should hope so. It is a shame he's so typecast though.

his performance has been described as similar to Brandon Routh’s in Superman Returns.

He's going to mald about Lois remarrying after he checked out?

Screenings have been very positive

David Corenswet is good as Superman

cool

his performance has been described as similar to Brandon Routh’s in Superman Returns

bit contradictory

It means he's copying Christopher Reeves

ViewerAnon, who has a much stronger track record than DanielRPK, claims otherwise.

So basically mouth breathers who wanted muh grimdark superheroes didn't like it. GOOD.
Gunn is bringing us Silver Age kino

I think people are mostly tired of silly, self-aware and ironic shit in movies. Even Deadpool and Wolverine tried to have some aspect of playing it straight even if the premise was meta and Deadpool himself cracks jokes, Wolverine in the costume and everything is played serious. The campy, lighthearted tone wears thin.

So it begins.

What compels people to make Superman films?
Do they think they'll get lucky? Do they think they've cracked the code for making him a compelling character for film?

Essentially this. Snyder cultists twisting words to ensure the movie will bomb, under the delusion that they will rehire Zack Snyder and not realistic just stick to standalone Batman shit until the end of time.

Accept the monkey's paw if it happens. Zack Snyder ain't coming back.

Not to mention full-blown fight scenes without cutting away from them just when it seems like it might get cool or something.

Sounds cool to me, hopefully the sneak peek they're releasing before Minecraft next week is good.

Silver age was 50 years ago now. why not aim for at least the DCAU audience?

Paid shills straight up lying

We've all seen the trailer, we've all seen the actors, we've all seen the suits.

An A-lister actor makes an uncredited cameo as Superman’s Kryptonian father Jor-El.

Gunn was asked about this online and suggested that if Jor-El was in the movie a youngish actor would play him. Some people think it'll be Chris Pratt because of how Gunn likes to reuse actors, but Pratt isn't believable as a scientist.

its their 2nd most popular hero

DCAU audience?

because it doesn't exist? im probably the only DC reader that liked the new 52 movies
generally DC fans prefer the new Tomorrowerse to the 2012 Flashpoint-Darkseid movies

- Reviewers don't get paid for criticizing a movie.
- Reviewers do get paid for promoting a movie.

Snow White was a "timeless masterpiece" heading for a box office blowout a few days ago...now it's a box office bomb.

So don't listen to the shills because WB is paying them to say that shit. Instead listen to the ones offering honest scrutiny.

Silver age was 50 years ago now

So what? Bringing forth the good things about that era in a movie that celebrates those qualities is an excellent way to get new audiences into a story.

thank you saars please do the needful my good bitchs

Reeves

No S there, champ. His name was Christopher Reeve.

response from Warner Bros

You mean the same fucks that watched Flash and said it was the same quality of Dark Knight?

lol

If the movie really is unabashedly silly in a Silver Age kind of way I'll like it, but if they do the constant MCU style winking at the audience then I'm out.

DCAU is the 90's cartoon, you're thinking DCAMU
I just think going all in on an era that's older than the target audience's grandparents may be a bit of an error.
There's degrees between Snyder and Silver Age. The DCAU is just one example, I think the 90's triangle era is fairly strong as well, the 2000's also had some highpoints modernizing the silver age aspects. I just think this may be leaning in on aspects that were already considered a hard sell 30 years ago for a kid's cartoon.

generally DC fans prefer the new Tomorrowerse to the 2012 Flashpoint-Darkseid movies

listen, the new 52 movies weren't made for the readers, i understand that, but preferring Tomorrowerse?

You guys really need to stop using Snyder as a scapegoat to deflect any criticism leveled at this movie. You're just setting yourselves up for a nasty fall if it really is mid/divisive.

Reminder that Gunn thinks that Flash is the best superhero movie ever.

That alone should discredit anything that comes out of this pedo's mouth.

yeah tell us more about how it's not jeets shitposting

The movie has an episodic structure, like a series of interlocked short stories rather than one continuous narrative.

I'm actually interested now.

Muh Snyder

Why the fuck are you blaming Snyder for Gunn's shitty decisions?

Comparing the new guy to Cavill isn't fair. Cavill was born to play Superman.

cavill.png - 640x558, 440.11K

Has there been a superhero movie like that before? The closest thing that comes to mind is Spider-Man (2002).

Cavill is a block of granite.

I don't know about American superheroes, but Shin Kamen Rider did something like that. The movie was effectively split up in to sections by the Kaijin, with each section being used to set up a specific part of the story. It ended up feeling a bit slow yet simultaneously rushed by the end because of it.

It's not a superhero movie but Sin City was kinda like that.

Sin City was better than any capeshit

Most people don't care for silly superheroes. Especially internationally which will make or break the movie.

Yeah which is why the MCU and its silliness totally haven't made billions upon billions of dollars, snyderjeet.

Marvel made billions when the crossover universe was a novel idea.

The MCU just had quips and didn't get actually silly until recently. Literally just dialogue until then.

And now it isn't because the trend got played out. Nothing lasts forever.

guardians of the galaxy

2014

not silly

what else did the voices tell you, snyderjeet

Marvel is still making billions right now, snyderjeet. Phase 5 has made over 3.6 billion so far and it hasn't even gotten any of its big hitter movies like Avengers or X-Men

guardians of the galaxy

Just 1?

Marvel is still making billions right now, snyderjeet. Phase 5 has made over 3.6 billion so far

Because Spider-Man and Deadpool & Wolverine each made a billion dollars.

What people need to focus on is if the rest of the world's gonna want this. Too many focus on JUST the domestic box office, when the international box office is how blockbuster flicks like this make a profit.

similar to Brandon Routh’s in Superman Returns.

Never watched it, was it good?

The episodic nature of it is going to feel like All Star Superman. I'm into it.
