What the fuck went wrong?

misogyny
anons will forgive and handwave male lapses but demonize female's.

Nothing. It was a great show with a protagonist who grew as character & a person, learning from her mistakes.

All the hate is overblown, made by incel man children crying over women being treated equally and realizing they can never hope to come close one to in real life.

I feel like every character was an asshole in this, outdone by further assholes

No clear defined character personality or world. In fact it's basic writing 101 to lay out your character's personality and the world around them. No one actually knows what that world was actually about or any of the characters personalities they changed from episode to episode, the technology of the world also made no sense as it would jump from era to era.yjsja

Korra. Almost everything wrong with the show can be traced back to her

Nothing. It's a good show that you insist on seething about 10 years later.

make all the main characters at least 6 years younger and the show becomes good

Had it ended after the first season like it was meant to people would think of it fondly.

they made the avatar a girl

Since the enemies were based off of nazis I find nazi ripoffs to be very clique & boring.

George Lucas syndrome

Yeah that was part of it but to say that the show wasn't grading enough to turn people away regardless of that would a lie. A decent chunk of the audience saw the writers going "You know this thing you actually are curious about? We can't find a good way to resolve it so we are going to bring it up and slap it away" and left, from what I heard that was the right decision.

Millennial sensibilities.

They actually had to try with ATLA but once Mike and Bryan had proven themselves, they were given full reign to make their childrens' cartoon the same way every other out-of-touch nitwit does nowadays; inserting their personal belief system about politics into the writing structure and waving off detractors as people who don't get it for their immaturity because it was the wrong spot in the timeline to refer to them as Nazis.

That's why you've got the 1920s aesthetic in a world that had operated on the same design of halberd for two hundred years beforehand, the westernization of a very eastern spirit world, political commentary on a wide swath of ideologies no one writer really cares to understand, the total cheapening of bending the elements, and a dozen other retcons that tumblrites will defend to the death because of the comics as if they weren't ground zero for how far Mike and Bryan can alter their setting without the wider public caring.

Wrong.

They actually had to try with ATLA

No they didn't. Last Airbender is shit. And it was hard carried by using a superior anime art style that made even Teen Titans look ugly by comparison. Combine Last Airbender's pretty art style with expensive high quality animation and choreography and idiots immediately ignore how terrible the writing is.

Hey boys and girls to save the world from a world war you have to WHINE loud enough until a magical lion turtle shows up to solve all your problems.

That finale is so terrible it ruined the majority of the series. Why did Aang need to travel the world to learn the elements when all he needed to do was whine and get the ultimate super power? Last Airbender is shit and only idiots ignore the abysmal writing.

The time jump

They just didn't have it in them to recapture the Gaang magic. Because that's what it comes down to, the friend group of the original is what sold it and carried it through lulls in the story and could keep you wanting to come back and see each character bounce off the other, and when they stuck together it felt like they were a real team who were friends and genuinely liked each other and being around each other. When they fought you understood it, when they made up it felt cathartic. When they won it was a success shared, when they failed it felt bad.

Korra has absolutely none of that. None of the comradery that made them so loveable, none of the genuine friendship and sticking together through it all that made every arc feel like a massive event. No standout characters like Toph who effortlessly merge into the fold so easily it's almost surprising to learn she wasn't there till season 2. No friendship that made the bad parts easier to deal with, no likeable main character who just seemed to click with these lovable cast. No redemption story from a villain that keeps people talking after it happens. No charismatic villain like Azula that steals the show. Korra was a half baked story with characters who failed to make anyone do the one thing that made Airbender a household name. Give a fuck about them. Sure, one or two people, especially here, might claim "No, they were lovable, I loved X or Y", but they know they're not the audience. They can see the drops across TWO generations to know both times, people just tuned out. Stopped watching. Stopped caring. The biggest premier of all time, carried by Aang's success, the massive budget to bring anything they wanted to life, the household IP to get people to tune in.

They didn't stay, and there's no question why. This was a bad story and these weren't interesting characters to make up for it. Simple as.

Aang acknowledged his flaws and tried to fix problems, Korra just tells people to deal with her shit while making things worse.

The finale hands-down the biggest cop-out in western animation but what does tearing down avatar have to do with why korra fell off so hard

To be fair now objectively what comradery could the Korra cast have?

Korra is a dumb fuck who was told to be the Other Woman interfering in a relationship. The fact she doesn't get hated for that is pure bullshit writing. Asami is a bland idiot bitch who is written to tolerate having her relationship ruined and her ability to even make a living destroyed. Mako is a cheater. And Bolin is just the Dumb Fat Guy.

These characters are inherently shit. Even if they didn't have reasons to hate each other their inherent personalities are garbage. While Sokka was a ladies man he was never a cheater think about that one for example.

I Remember they wanted to have a cuck triangle in aangs series like they did Korra. They really dodged a huge bullet with the aangs group

Because I'm tired of people pretending Avatar Last Airbender had good writing. It did not. It has frankly lackluster writing all around with stupid nonsense such as....

"See these invaders from the Fire Nation who are conquering the Earth Kingdom you are NOT supposed to kill them even though we're in the middle of a World War!"

I hated the preachy bullshit like that, the writing is bad. And it only got worse during that final season.

No they didn't and there was no triangle in Korra.

You're not yourself when your hungry. Have a Tide Pod.

The enemies were commies and anarchists. The closest to a nazi enemy was the Fire Nation and that was in TLA and even then barely related because Japan was part of the Axis

Bryke didn't have their tardwranglers. LoK is what Bryke wanted ATLA to be.

No they didn't

Yes they did with OG Toph.

there was no triangle in Korra.

"When you're with her, you're really thinking about me"

Unfortunately the plot is retarded because it's designed around room temperature American takes on politics. They even took the asian setting and said, "You know what this needs? More Henry Ford, art deco, and Oppenheimer."

Bryan Joseph Konietzko (born June 1, 1975)

KILL YOURSELF ZOOM ZOOM THEY'RE GEN X
Fucking zoomers are always "millennials this, millennials that." millennials aren't thinking about you. they're drinking themselves to death because they can't afford a house. shove a tide pod up your ass you retarded little faggot.

This post is right but Anon Babble isn't ready to hear it. Aang as a protagonist could not win the conflict as it was designed. They fumbled every arc point. The writing doesn't even work on a basic level. They had a cool premise, and that's it.

Anon Babble is full of retards so they will say that it's because korra is a brown woman, but the show still sucks and people who aren't retarded like Anon Babble can still see it

The younger brother was into Korra first and trained her helped her join the sports team and mako knew that and still got with her

YxdV.gif - 250x250, 990.48K

2 years of development as opposed to Avatar's 4 years means there wasn't enough time to iron out the kinks in the writing, leading to a lot of cool concepts that are woefully undercooked

Mike and Bryan as the only writers on the first season laid an extremely sloppy foundation that was difficult to recover from, especially when so much of the first season was wasted by focusing on stupid shit no one liked such as the love square

Later seasons were all being developed simultaneously along with an animation studio change for season 2 which just led to even more problems as now the writers could barely be fucked to make the series coherent

Really the fact that it came out as understandable as it did is shocking. It's still really bad though.

kamala lost

it was hard carried by using a superior anime art style

That's like the weakest part of a great show like avatar and you reveal a lot about yourself by thinking that, not even weebs say dumb shit like that
AtLA's aesthetic is bland as fuck. Book 1 had a lot of cheap animation.

Look at this post and tell me Anon Babble isn't too retarded to even understand a show for 12 year old

what if anon was the avatar (but female)

gamergate

The writers couldn't write villains and they couldn't write endings, which was also true during TLA.

kuvira did nothing wrong. at least the creators didn't do her dirty like voltron did Lotor dirty.

I can't stand fuckers who are like this

Korra was a massive nonce in the first season and the relationship shit didn't make it better

Nit to mention her side cast outside of some of them were absolutely shit!

This wouldn't change if korra was male but because of culture war bullshit we get shitty asshats like this saying misogyny did it

They didn't plan out the story and were clearly making up shit as they went along. They undermined everything remotely interesting about every arc by having the villain fall after just 13 episodes. Well, not the stupid Dark Avatar shit, I don't even understand why nobody told them that idea was stupid.

Every time they kept writing the villains as having a point and perhaps this issue is more of a morally grey area, only to remember this is a kids show and can't have that so they tack on some evil shit to justify their loss.
Amon had a large following, which indicates there was a large amount of non-benders who agreed and felt they were second class citizens, but last minute reveal that he was a blood bender somehow solved the entire social issues from it.

Pretty much every villain was "well they have a point but..." other than Unalaq, who is easily the worst main villain in the entire franchise regardless.

Unalaq's point was being very good at dealing with spirits, which was something Korra was bad at. The problem is the writers had no idea what to do with spirits but kept putting them in the plot anyway.

Nickelodeon jerking them around over how many seasons they'd get
Hard to recapture the ATLA magic when you're only given one season

Oh hey another, but since we had one last we didn't set up any long term character arcs.
And since we're only getting another hard it'll be hard to do that again

That's a load of shit. ATLA was given the same 13 episode greenlight as Korra, and once Nickelodeon saw the show was successful, they greenlit more episodes, same as what happened with Korra. The biggest thing you can blame Nick for is changing the animation studio in season 2 for some reason, and putting the show in a death slot that eventually led to the budget cuts and the show being put online for its final season. But Bryke should absolutely have known better and either wrote a more conclusive story if they thought they were actually only getting 13 episodes, or had a contingency plan for if they were getting more.

The problem is that every season was Korra getting beaten up for like 10 episodes and then near the end they decided she jobbed enough and she was either saved or got a power-up and won, some times both. It's like they wanted to preempt people calling her a Mary Sue so instead they made it look like she existed to get her ass kicked and be a fuck up.
