What went wrong?

They abandoned the 6-12 demographic and decided to pander to toddlers for some fucked up reason

Steven Universe

Youtube AI algorithmic slop and India.

CN Real was a warning sign of bad things to come, and then shit such as Steven Universe happened and the channel ended up pandering to toddlers

AT&T bought their parent company, fucked up shit, and it never recovered and the current owner is burning the scraps.

all those shows are canceled
DEI is no more, we won

ze/zir

Fucking nobody uses this shit unironically.

It cancelled Mao Mao and DC Super Hero Girls, and chose to resurrect their 2010s nostalgia bait

The civil rights movement. It affected who gets hired and what gets made.

Toddlers are the most profitable animation demo

Abandoned creative driven cartoon making.

Adopt a streamline cartoon process like every other studios but add woke shit to it.

We start getting shit that turned the late zoomers into literal bitches just like the millennials who created the cartoons.

Early Zoomers and Gen A stop watching and move to YouTube/New grounds content.

Studios are now being shut down left and right or are moving to Georgia and Florida.

People working in animation are blaming others instead of trying to fix it.

Now we're in an era where the industry is dead because 40 year old millennials couldn't keep their mental bullshit to themselves and now everyone is laid off or fired.

Such a shame, maybe if they listened to fans they'd be still good. We seriously need to bring back focus testing because we need to seriously fucking stop listening to Twitter and millennial women.

Don’t forget the Warner Bros merger with Discovery

They started falling off around the time it ended. Nice try lol

or are moving to Georgia and Florida.

This is a good thing. Letting things like adult swim move back to Georgia instead of having to stay forced in shitty-ass California is ideal.

What I find funny about complaining about Youtube is that it's literally the companies' faults for not adjusting to platforms like that and just uploading their shit for free to a much wider audience

Craig of the Creek wasn't canceled, it had a full 8 season run and a spin-off movie.

Moonite advertisement causes huge controversy and forces the last decent CN president to leave

gets replaced with guy that unironically looks like a corporate/wallstreet antagonist from an 80s movie

said guy (Snyder) cancels a bunch of content people loved and saturated the network with live action crap

but at the time good shows released under him, toy-commercials had not been phased out yet so there were plenty of action/story-driven cartoons like Sym Bionic and Ben 10

"diet Adult Swim" shows like Adventure Time and Regular Show began to come out too

Them and other shows such as Steven Universe, Teen Titans Go, and Over the Garden Wall were a direct result of CN and Warner's nepotism problem - so shows usually came from creators that worked on previous shows

Snyder leaves and the LA slop goes with him

2013/14 onwards toys begin to die down so the action cartoons go with it

Adventure Time and Steven Universe get more popular and as the shows went on more story and action driven. It also gave emotionally stunted women and LGBT men a platform, increasing its popularity

gives birth to both the "cutesy/funny show randomly gets serous and lore driven" trope and the "soft" inoffensive but still unappealing cal-arts art style

their writers and aspiring showrunners inspired by them spread out like a disease across CN, Disney, and Nick, creating Summer Camp Island, OKKO, Amphibia, Gravity Falls etc

Turner/WB see that streaming is becoming popular so they try to replicate it by A. creating the "bomb" format where viewers can watch a new episode of a show either instantly or every day and B. spamming TTG and dumping everything else on Max

this causes the vast majority of people, including people that didn't even mind Teen Titans Go to hate the show

now used as the boogeyman for why all the CN shows in its era ended unjustly and now even kids that grew up watching and liking it will grow up to resent it when they grow up

fast forward to 2017-19

cont

the CN president at that time (Miller) leaves and is briefly replaced by a Japanese guy who wanted to get back to action shows but he is promptly metoo'd and steps down

new-new president is the old Freeform president and immediately fixes the TTG spam but creates a Nick/Disney jr equivalent.

Also tries to turn back to live action, degrassi was about to be aired on CN

Fast forward to now and their platform is failing and nobody wants to watch their channel

have to resort to rebooting/continuing a bunch of shows

Only if you're advertising stuff to their parents.
In the modern era where parents plop their toddlers down in front of a tablet and stick them on Youtube, they're no longer profitable like they used to be unless you get a Bluey-tier hit.

Don't try to pinpoint when CN fell off. You'll make the Uncle Grandpa and Clarence fans mad. No matter what hard viewership data you pull they'll still try to spin it as your personal taste.

Kys faggot

Wait what? When did that happen?

If you mean Adult Swim moving back, they haven't yet. If you mean them moving to California? Right around start of Discovery's bullshit.

Zaslav is just desperately throwing cargo overboard in an attempt to keep the plane flying.

everything changed when rebecca sugar created steven universe

They should reopen Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando.

Case in point

Those guys are a bunch of assholes. The fact that Andy Merrill is an Amazon driver, and has been reduced to playing the ukulele in videos that get sub-1k views makes me want to kick Mike Lazzo in the balls.

...of you being a faggot

We got a toonzone poser over here

Ah okay, yeah I was going to ask for a timeline for Adult Swim, because I last visited their HQ back in 2020 when they were still in Georgia.

Toddlers and Tumblr. They left their core audience and the core audience left them.

They should've never been moved from Georgia, because that mural you probably remember, with all their shows in chronological order, was torn the fuck down.

Many parents still plop their toddlers down in front of the TV due to viewing it as the lesser of two evils/they're too poor for a tablet/computer

they're too poor for a tablet/computer

If you're too poor for a tablet/phone for your kid then you're too poor for premium cable, which is primarily where non-toddler cartoons air.

This
Cable costs more than standard internet a lot of the time.

And that's one of the reasons why Toddler cartoons are more popular than cartoons aimed at older audiences

Tablets and phones can be had quite affordably, I see kids tablets for $100 or less.

because that mural you probably remember, with all their shows in chronological order, was torn the fuck down.

Yup, I remember, I took some photos of it while I was there. Was heading to a museum in Kennesaw and I figured I'd make a pit stop at Williams Street, because I had a feeling it was going to be the last time I saw it and I was right. Also, their parking lot is next to a daycare and kids like throwing toys over the fence, which I found to be morbidly amusing. Hopefully if and when they return they make a new mural or something else.

They didn't make new a franchise show. The closest they got was OK K.O. but I watched through season 1 and I still have no fucking idea how anything works. Is it a trading card game? Is it martial arts?
