Just like goth is an umbrella term that encompasses multiple musical genres (post punk, darkwave, coldwave, goth rock, deathrock, ethereal) that don't always sound like each other, "emo" is also an umbrella term that is honestly even more chaotic (emo punk, hardcore punk, certain metalcore bands, Y2K pop punk emo, industrial, scenecore, deathcore, hell they sometimes throw dubstep in there too).
