Real talk: what exactly is the $90,000 USD budget for?

Well part of it is that these are, for most people still ultimately just promotional shorts for the animator's guild protests. There's not much you can really do with that as a show, and based on the pitch it seems that for one the show is going to be a series of shorts much like those from those protests and two is that the actually pitched amount is less than they acutally want which is $140k for a full twelve shorts.
$90k for nine minutes of content and $50k more if you want it to be twelve minutes instead. Yes animation and voice acting and what have you cost money but compare it to say Godspeed. Olan Rogers wanted $80,000 for Godspeed which was a full twenty-eight minutes with the strech goals being that he would make a documentary and then add on more music with each goal. Even if he hit $80k that short would not have changed. THAT is why this KS is floundering, they are essentially asking for you to pay for more of the one minute shorts they made during the negotiations and not a lot.

They probably see this as establishing a culture of fair rates not fleecing a small loyal following in a different market. They don’t seem to get that most of the audience is going to be less rich than them, not more, as they’re willing to support and buy products. Crowdfunding is a completely different ball game from bidding for a bigger slice of corporate profits on TV shows. They have every right to do what they want, but it’s a weird strategy.

Indie stuff being successful only works if the people making it have a quality and affordable product that they're offering, as well as an established following online. It doesn't need to be the best thing ever, but there are certain boxes that must be checked, some that are more obvious than others.

Most indie creators aren't business-minded. The problem with going indie is that YOU have to handle all the non-creative things.

I think it would be better to just make good animations educating people about things you'd really like for them to know. Be precise, to the point and make it fun. Think of it as an investment into a better society.
It feels flawed to ask people for money for this. Also quite frankly, no shit animators should be treated fairly. I don't need to be educated about this or anything else they want to teach me in eight one minute videos. The title being an obnoxious stereotypical meme way of correcting you is also a bit of a deterrent, at least subconsciously.

the name is way too forced and i don't ever see anyone formulate "but" as "bert" so it's just a bizarre name. This Adam dude has built a brand off being a know-it-all prick. This is what the people want, I guess? I dunno, smarminess only makes me stay the hell away

Yeah that doesn't sound good, and it feels like mr. Adam would only be preaching to the choir instead of legitimately changing minds with the way he conducts himself, at least that's what I would think at a glance, I do not know this man at all.
All this to say that I want something a little more on-point. Have a better cast of characters, better jokes, deliver the information in a way that can be digested better... The original shorts are weirdly rushed, "corporate-sounding" and homicidal and I don't really want to see more of that.

I think Max's stuff is very well made, I think his Apu video in particular was very good for standing up for the character. Regarding the "bullshit alarm" sentiment, maybe? His latest stuff is a bit off I think... Still very well made but maybe his writing could be better. I'm sure Anon Babble in general has more solid insight on him.
