BEN REILLY (Nicolas Cage)

A charming but weathered retired vigilante with spider-like abilities who is too old and broken, both literally and figuratively, to suit up the way he used to. Instead, he works as a private investigator, taking low-level cases and staying out of the ones that involve high-profile names, until a seemingly ordinary missing person investigation leads him to uncover a conspiracy with the fate of the city hanging on the balance.

SILVIO MANFREDI (Brendan Gleeson)

An aging crime boss who controls the New York City criminal underworld. A philosopher with a drone-eye view who is equally affable and dangerous.

ROBBIE ROBERTSON (Lamorne Morris)

A dedicated journalist trying to make it with the odds stacked against him, taking on riskier stories that no one else would touch in order to catch attention and a paycheck. He is willing to do whatever is necessary for his career.

Because its lazy, artless pastiche that assumes all genre fiction of the past (weird, penny dreadful, science fiction adventure, mysteries) fall under the same aesthetic umbrella as "noir." This means Indiana Jones, which was 40s adventure (fighting nazis makes sense) and new york stories about crime families are treated like the same thing.
