SpongeBob's downfall started in season 3

There were some pretty awful episodes later in the season.

Party Pooper Pants

Ugh

The Great Snail Race

I Had An Accident

Krabby Land

SpongeBob Meets the Strangler

Missing Identity

The Sponge Who Could Fly

Pranks A Lot

explain every single one of those being "bad," otherwise this thread is closed. reply "FPBP" if you agree.

Ever since someone pointed it out to me like half a decade ago this has always been an interesting topic to me, but I never really bother to bring it up. It is weird how you can feel Season 3 slipping into that sort of Season 4 vibe. Spongebob felt really off during the house party episode in comparison to the usual "pre-movie" vibe. It's not something I can articulate, but at least some people have noticed it to bring it to my awareness. I think a similar comparison could be made to Sponge Who Could Fly.

Too much randumb humor and constant screaming. Krabby Land is the worst example.

How specifically is Krabby Land "randumb" or "screaming"?

Spongebob tortures himself so the kids can laugh, he screams for 1 minute straight. Then randumb shit like lima beans.

So the problem is that you have shit taste and are detached from the actual reality of children, who dislike lima beans to the degree of considering them torture. You misunderstood the jokes and the setup of children liking fails and people getting hurt. That's your own fault, not the work's.

Have you considered getting help for your condition? Therapy, getting beat up, women, anything should theoretically help someone as critically unfunny as yourself. It is not too late to save yourself.

Spongebob meets the Strangler

One of the absolute best uses of his naivety for the sake of humor

Bad

None of those are bad episodes, but I agree with the broader claim.
Spongebob fell off in the mid-to-late 2000s and early 2010s because it abandoned the more age-less family comedy of the first seasons and went into a direction which was near solely focused on types of humor which appeal only to kids. Like gross-out, screaming, and the like.

Season 3 already was making the transition into being consistently louder, less relatable, and generally more focused just on children.
That being said, I think Season 3 still was a good watch.

S3 is ass

Spongebob season 1 = Simpsons season 1-6
Spongebob season 2 = simpsons season 7-9
Spongebob season 3 = Simpsons season 10-13

Season 3 has the Krusty Krab Training Video, Wet Painters, Chocolate With Nuts, and Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V. So, no, season 3 is still amazing.

All these episodes are kino wtf is wrong with you, can't wait until season 4 to shit on the show?? Only Krabyland was mid

And the specials too honestly

Spongebob season 3 is more like season 8. It's getting wackier but it's still firmly golden age (Simpsons s9 is borderline but whatever). Season 4 is like if the show dropped straight into season 20.

Also the retards who insist there are "bad" pre-movie episodes to begin with are all post-movie apologists and need to kys

I agree that the second half of season 3 is weaker, but it's still not nearly as weak as even the first half of season 4, and the first half of season 3 is fucking STACKED with some of the best episodes in the entire series. And even then there were moments of solid fucking gold like Mid-Life Crustacean, Clams, and Chocolate with Nuts, the latter of which is an easy contender for being a top 5 Spongebob episode period. I maintain that the only truly mediocre golden age episode was Party Pooper Pants, which is in the set of episodes you described, but it's a standout dud surrounded mostly by gold and some silver. I also strongly disagree with like, half of your list here. Great Snail Race in particular is a great episode.

In defense, the latter half of season three was suffering a burnout as the crew were focusing on production of the movie during that time, and even with its shortcomings, season 3 was still peak

We call the Modern episodes Scumbob.

only missing identity is a bit boring, honestly thinking about it, even season 4 had like 10 solid good episodes atleast.

Also i dont know if this has been touched on that much but season 3 is where they got the coloration of spongebob perfect to, in season 1 and 2 the colors just look sickly and like desaturated or something but they finally made his yellow a deeper color in s3

Weakest of the first three seasons? Maybe, but it's still lightyears ahead of the following seasons

I absolutely agree. Season 3 is still absolutely has some of that post-movie feel in it, like they're padding out the time to an extent. A lot of the iconic episodes are really more individual moments that were funny and memorable. The time in between golden moments was getting longer and longer.

why do people like to harp on the great snail race so much? it has really good jokes, they attempted something similar in s6 with grooming gary and that was just boring with nothing funny or memorable except the title.

The later part of season 3 is the result of the golden age crew being strung out between the show itself and the movie's production. It's weaker but still has a lot of brilliant moments, and you can almost tell when the production must have lulled because there are a handful of episodes mixed in there that still easily match the peaks of the earlier ones. Season 4 feels fucking alien in comparison right out the gate.

Reminder that SpongeBob ended production in early 2002, but Nick withheld episodes until 2004. If it aired a normal schedule, it would only last from 1999-2002, like Courage the Cowardly Dog did.

Nope, you're wrong

b-bu-bu-but you can't just say-

Nope, I'm correct. Season 3 is great.

Name 5 examples.

The Algae's Always Greener, Club SpongeBob, Idiot Box, Wet Painters, and Chocolate with Nuts.

How many Squidward tortures did S3 have?

4

the only truly bad one is the sponge who could fly

Agreed, most of these episodes relied heavily on slapstick and starting to include the SHOUTING REALLY LOUDLY for no reason that S4 onwards is known for.

Y'all's obsession with pinpointing the EXACT moment SpongeBob "went bad" is getting exhausting. Each era has its strengths, with the periods where Hillenburg was most involved being the pinnacle of this series. I'm personally not interested in seeking out much of the newer stuff, but I won't just write it all off.

I Had An Accident

SpongeBob Meets the Strangler

Awful

I never saw anyone who considered these episodes bad. Hell, they were two of my favorites that season.

I don't agree with the episodes listed, but yeah season 2 is the peak.

I Had an Accident's ending it worth the entire episode alone, never mind all the jokes along the way.

Y'all's obsession with pinpointing the EXACT moment SpongeBob "went bad" is getting exhausting.

It's the second season four starts

Each era has its strengths

No

Am I the only one who feels like Season 3 is the most Rocko like? Not only does Spongebob and Patrick act more like Filburt and Heffer but several episodes like "The Great Snail Race" "Missing identity " and "Chocolate With Nuts" could easily be made into Rocko episodes with some character changes. Also this seems like the season where Bikini Bottom feels the most like O-Town considering how depressing it seems.

The Great Snail Race

I Had An Accident

Krabby Land

SpongeBob Meets the Strangler

Missing Identity

Bad
Look at the guy with the shit taste over here

No you're not alone, I actually thought the same thing when it was airing. I wonder if they weren't reaching back to what they knew because of how much production was tied up in the movie.

The Great Snail Race

In that case, the downfall is worth it by giving us this gem

The only thing I hate about that episode is when he goes

no problem strangler- I mean. Bodyguard.

But the entire episode is funny as shit.

He got really quiet after that.

This. Selling Out, Krusty Towers, MMBB VI, and Enemy in Law were the only episodes that got a chuckle out of me. And people praise Have You Seen This Snail but I always found that episode depressing as fuck. By season 5 onward I never even cracked a smile.

literally the only bad episode on this list is Party Pooper Pants
every other episode is funny as fuck, and objectively better than what came after them in season 4
