I actually thought the animation for Kratos vs. Asura was good. I know a lot of people had problems with it, but I thought it was great.

Even if you disagree about Asura losing, given the power gap between the two it makes sense for Kratos to take little damage. It also put Kratos in some kind of a mentor or elder role to Asura, and let Kratos show how far he had come by defeating someone who had been down the same path as him. He wasn't just fighting Asura, he wasTEACHING Asura. And I think that's very heartwarming in a way. That Kratos would take the lessons he learned and help someone who was just like him.

If this weren't a Death Battle I'm sure they would have ended cordially and taught each other well. The alternate ending is weird, even if heartwarming in its own way. It was nice to see Kratos reunite with his daughter, but it feels weird to have him just stand there and take that punch.

I haven't played Asura's game though (but after watching this fight I think I might watch a playthrough!) so I might be missing stuff but as a big GoW fan I thought they did Kratos justice and from what I saw they treated Asura with the utmost respect. What character has ever gotten an alternate ending made just for them?

WISEtos is the most insightful character on the show. He offers so much knowledge from his life experience to teach us how to be better.

I think Death Battle has had a good track record for the last several years but this fight and Kratos vs Asura were really bad. They based the winner of Simon vs Kyle by determining who power ups the fastest. They then ignored how Simon relies on others to power up, and this is a 1v1. Since they assumed the fight starts below full power, Kyle has an infinite number of ways to instantly kill Simon before Simon powers up much like how Hal could always kill Ben before Ben has a chance to even switch aliens, but Kyle is way faster and stronger than Hal, and transforming Gurren Lagann is way slower than switching aliens, so what gives? The only way Simon would win is if they start at peak power, but they explicitly didn't want to handle the fight like that. They just break their own rules and ignore how both characters powers work.

With Kratos vs Asura, the characters are blatantly not even in the same power brackets. It's comical to see Kratos repeatedly tank attacks and dish attacks far stronger than anything he ever does in game every minute of the fight. Greek Kratos is canonically stronger than Norse Kratos, and has more thematic similarities to Asura, and has far more interesting powers so it's just a waste they used Norse Kratos. They measured Kratos's strength because a different character lifted up a part of a tree, and according to an obviously non-literal map, this tree would be bigger than the entire universe. They calculated his speed by ignoring how Hermes mostly used his superspeed in temporary bursts, and Kratos only hits him when slowed down. (Plus scaling Norse Kratos with Greek feats is stupid because most of Kratos's Greek magic canonically died with Gaia and Greece's destruction.) Death Battle is consistently terrible with scaling speed. My favorite example is Link vs Cloud 2 where they measure Link's speed as faster than light, and they show a clip of link very slowly rolling to dodge a slow, telegraphed laser attack.

The more I look back on Kyle vs Silon, the more I grow to dislike it. This fight gave Kyle the highest echelons of DC’s cosmic feats, scaled Kyle to the absolute highest like Spectre and Anti-Monitor, and even claimed that he was more powerful than Hal and faster than Wally. It’s such a blatant gross misrepresentation of not just Kyle’s character but also what he’s capable of. Not to mention that after reading up on Morrison’s Green Lantern with the Ultrawar, I now realize that Hal would’ve been the far better match against Simon because his feats in Ultrawar actually had some counters against some of the powers that Simon had, like powering up the cosmic grail which is the platonic/primeval lantern to charge every lantern across multiverses, and merged every version of himself across his history via his Spectre form, or towards the end of Willworld where Hal’s own future was just as real as the dreams he imagined as a child.

I honestly didn’t mind Simon winning at all. I just think Death Battle massively overswanked Kyle’s feats to ludicrous levels while giving the impression that DC’s high cosmic shit wasn’t that impressive even though they spent years building up DC’s reputation. I just think Simon vs Hal would’ve been the best and more perfect matchup instead of Kyle.

I don’t think so. I think it would’ve likely ended in a genuine stalemate. For instance, Kyle’s ace in the hole, the Life Equation would've turned the tides in his favor had Kyle known how to use it and wasn’t scared of what he would become if he did. Hal on the other hand, used the Miracle Machine which can provide an answer to the Life Equation itself, and he used his own will to power it up so unlike Kyle, Hal had no hesitation when it comes to using almighty reality warping devices to get the job done.

The reason why it's so nebulous? To encourage fand to fill the gaps with their own fangames and fanworks of course. Naturally this means the wildest shit is creatively applied to the powerscaling.

1) Gensokyo isn't actually under an invisible dome-shaped forcefield, it's a conceptual barrier and you never reach the end no matter how far you go.
2) Gensokyo contains old hell which is more or less as big as jupiter at least
3) The story leaves gensokyo and goes to infinite realms all the time, it's like saying that superhero comics are limited almost exclusively to earth

You'd explain away anything I said about my experience with the series anyway but I've had more than my fair share of exposure, and especially from lore threads. I've read every manga and print work and played a few of the games, the fighting ones too. It never actually eclipses anything that'd fully break the setting very often. The most prominent time is in 14.5 where they were gonna switcheroo the Lunar Capital around but that's purely hax. Some characters can bother Gensokyo, but again it covers a prefecture sized area at best. At a baseline the setting is overall pretty grounded, but people wanna pretend it's DBZ all day every day.

touhou is inconsistent, the characters basically operate on different scales entirely between manga and games, and even between different manga. Reimu and Marisa tanking explosions that dwarf buildings and getting slammed through stone and trees is also pretty silly compared to the slice of life manga. or the fact that it looks like marisa CAN'T fly at all in some stories. zun just doesn't care about keeping a consistent tone and tells whatever story he wants, but he definitely intends for them to be strong when he writes them doing strong feats, it's not just powerscaler extrapolation.

From the way the multiversal structure is presented (each letter represents a multiverse who has infinitely sized realms inside, plus a number that represents different multiverse meaning that between the A type multiverses and the B type Multiverses there's an infinite amount of infinitely sized multiverses containing infinitely sized universes inside) plus each multiverse cluster can converge and diverge, but these interactions don't transmutate the multiverse but instead create a new one so some multiverses (like the A type multiverses) can diverge into infinity.
Then we have the characters.
A good chunk of them are fairly normal, L1 units are the normal Touhous, A units come from universes were the incidents keep going indefinitely, B units are Sci-fi, etc.
But every now and then we get stuff like

Z1 Marisa (the witch of scarlet dreams) is a Marisa that lost her name obtaining infinite power that on top of being infinite in magnitude is ever growing, to keep the universe from exploding Remilia turned the Scarlet Devil Mansion into a Tower that keeps building upon itself forever, keeping Marisa away from Gensokyo (but even this just delayed the inevitable)

All L80 units survived the complete conceptual erasure of their multiverses

L80 Junko can purify the universe into a primordial particle to cause a Big bang, doing this enough times helped her to connect her spirit to a multiversal cluster to gather crazy amounts of spiritual power

L80 Sakuya travels through infinite timelines looking for the players

L80 Miko can listen to the Akashic records meaning she became the Laplace Demon

Small planet is a decent middle ground for the main girls because, while they don't directly interact with these elements in a way that would give you scaling, they do beat characters with said interactions.

Plus Hecatia's lunatic impact creates real moons (according to the Grimoire of Usami) and Tenshi can quite literally throw people out of orbit casually (and her dream self is able to Shake the heavens who at least we know are bigger than Former hell, who Maribel describes as bigger than Jupiter)

It's a joke but the destruction under the crater was the result of an attack that actually hit the ground and blew up, Reimu was just caught in it. The collateral seems pretty mild on the environment and Gensokyo in general, and it was used in a serious fight as far as we're aware.
