Just watched the new Rick and Morty episode. Space Beth is insufferable. Making an episode about just her and Rick was a terrible idea.

I disagree

I thought it was forgettable and will likely never watch it again, but I didn't -hate- it.

If anything I'll say it went in a completely different direction from what I expected based on the s8 trailers. I thought it was gonna be more about rick getting his ego somewhat tingled by the new bugs either not knowing who he was or considering space beth more of a threat than him, thus inadvertedly making the adventure about himself to show the bugs while sidelining space beth until he learns his lesson. But it was just an action sci-fi plot played completely straight. Which by itself would be ok, but it's written in such a way that it only has two bad jokes (explaining the joke and the whole rent free thing) and the rest is full-on fanservice (bug lore, bird daughter, resistance vs empire shit) that feels like it's for nobody, and they have need to downplay it anyways.

Unsufferable characters don't matter much in Rick & Morty. Terrible characters improved before, or they die.

I actually felt like this was a pretty passable episode. Probably one of the few where Space Beth worked as a character.

5 minutes in, I found Rick teleporting Beth right into the place to embarass her like an over eager dad was funny and incharacter

Rick going on an angry weird mouth piece rant about "muh daughter is epic sauce badass" to a bunch of randoms for a full minute felt very out of character.

That was just post-therapy Rick trying to overcorrect because his space daughter actually wanted him in her life. They literally spell that character motivation out for us.

Did JigC show up in this episode? And if so, did he rock?

That part was good. The problem is that Rick and Beth have terrible chemistry, so an entire episode of just those two is terrible. The episode badly needed either another tagalong (e.g., Morty) or a B-plot.

I don't know if I agree. I didn't mind their dynamic at all here.

the "insect" supremacist has a queen of spades tattoo and is watching black porn

You fags have got to be kidding me with this shit show.

Swing by Anon Babble for a couple of hours and try to refute it.

She’s not insufferable, she’s just boring. They didn’t try girlbossing or any of that shit it was just a bland episode.

As a Anon Babblechud I thought that was a funny joke. Would have been funnier if the girl was insectoid.

It’s Space Beth’s second best showing after Bethsic Twinstinct. Middle of the road episode, nothing to get worked up over.

Kind of wish that more than just Rick and Space Beth were in this episode, no Morty or Summer, and Jerry hasn't even shown up yet this season.

Why do I feel like the Picasso style Summer in that image was done because someone on the show became aware of ENA?

So we went from

drunk retard rick

godmode sociopath rick

broken sometimes vulnerable rick

to what’s now seemingly the most human one yet?

While I don’t think it was that interesting, it avoided a lot of the pitfalls of modern Rick and Morty. I think this episode will prove to be load-bearing in the future because it’s a Marder episode.

Drunk Retard Rick is obviously the best one but I think that current Rick is the best place to take his shark-jumped self. Time to start working on Morty.

Yeah, post-therapy "trying to do better" Rick is definitely the best he's been since they committed to "I'M A GOD, MORTY"

This one... was inoffensive. Mild. Contemporary.
The exact opposite of what I'd expect from an episode of this show.
It was completely forgettable.

to what’s now seemingly the most human one yet?

I think we're getting... Okay Rick. He's just doing okay. He's worked through some of his shit, he's calmed down, he's learning to appreciate the life he's built with his current family, he's letting things matter and he's letting people in.

Both episodes this season have been kind of inoffensively okay. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I hope it picks up steam soon.

This is my take as well. I’m unbothered, my only notes are be more interesting.

Honestly, I went in expecting nothing from this but Cisco has to be up there as one of the better jokes of the later seasons.
Like, it starts as a juxtapose between the plan and what ends up happening but the way they completely derail from the plan to argue about Cisco had me chuckling

Another fucking space beth episode

Who the fuck likes this character aside from the cunts in the writing room

Honestly sunset the show already

Spacebeth living in anons heads rent free
did we like the rent free jokes, Anon Babble?

Not really. If it were new and topical and there was a point to be made, maybe it could have gained some traction, but it just came off more like "oh, haha, people say this thing, wow, have you ever heard anyone say this thing? This is a thing people say, isn't that annoying how they say that?"

This might be the lamest episode. Even "bad" episodes did something interesting this was just "Rick and Beth have generic scifi adventure"

They make fun of stories like these and ALSO do them. 4 minutes in and you think they're gonna make a play on it but nope, it's literally just "wholesome action adventure and bird person with bird daughter also show up where they own the villain at the end and the two factions become friends :D"

Most uninspired and tepid episode by far. There wasn't even a B plot, it was all just "beth and rick get to the bottom of a bug james bond plot" the ENTIRE time

This might be the best episode. Even "good" episodes did something interesting this was just "Rick and Beth have cool scifi adventure"

Most inspired and enthusiastic episode by far. It didn't even need a B plot, it was all just "beth and rick get to the bottom of a bug james bond plot" the entire time

It might have been funny if they only did it once.

Correct on all counts, I'd say. I'm really not sure what they were going for here. Was the joke that they turned Rick and Morty into a boring, one-dimensional generic sci-fi cartoon by exploring more of Space Beth's space life, just as Rick said way back when he first roasted her for this very thing?

great post my nigga

This. The mark of a badly written joke is the fact that its repeated multiple times with no new spin on it. Keep an eye out for them and you'll start noticing bland joke repeats often, especially in badly written shows.

Hopefully not the last time Morty gets a face full of Summer's titties.

Sex with Summer

Sex with Morty

They should kill off space Beth. They already don't know what to do with regular Beth.

Total Beth Death.
Do it, Evil Morty. Use the Omega Device.
Erase her from infinite universes.

Honestly I’ll take a straightforward episode over a bad episode.

this episode is both

Nah, it doesn’t do enough wrong to be bad. This is mid, which is different.

It’s a unique flavor of badness. I wanted to like this episode because it skirts most of what modern R&M does wrong (self-criticism, detachment, eye-rolling treatment of female characters, too much reliance on reference, etc) but it had none of the strengths. It was just… nothing. Cookie cutter/generic. It wouldn’t take much to make this episode better (unlike most bad episodes which are fundamentally flawed), but this was the first time they simply played it too safe.

I DONT WANT TO BE STUCK IN THIS FAMILY ANYMORE REEEEEEEEEEEEE

return home every other day

space beth is that one crazy bitch everyone pumps and dumps

She’s made peace with Beth and Jerry. It’s Rick she has the most beef with, but she’s still Beth at the end of the day, Daddy issues.
