LET HIM FINISH RICKY

that episode where Karl predicted augmented reality VR 20 years ago and ricky dismissed it as impossible nonsense

Karl starts talking about a complex concept that is genuinely interesting to think about

Fumbles one word

"I can't believe he said Pear instead of Pair, what an absolute fucking twat. Karl, you're a stupid cunt, and I bet your girlfriend hates you!"

Jesus christ.

Ricky Gervais is the actual retard in this trio. He is constantly projecting this fact onto Karl out of insecurity for what he knows to be true deep down: that he's a giant idiot detached from reality, with no idea how the world work, no conception of what other people think or feel, and no willingness to learn.

li'l monkey fella...

turns out... it was a chimp all along

Especially after Idiot Abroad. He straight up admitted he was sending Karl out to experience things he would never do.

All three of them are doing a bit, you dingus parade. It doesn't have to be scripted for it to be fairly "fake."

Karl: Never let on that you're talking nonsense.
Ricky: Karl talking nonsense makes me angry I want him to stop.
Steven: Karl talking nonsense is funny I want him to keep going.

It's like a very simple form of improv and I'm sure it was easy as pie for trained actors and none too hard for Karl either.

Why you got ta be such a fuckin' cunt to me all the time, Ricky?

Karl Pilkinton is unironically a misunderstood genius that was ahead of his time.

but he owed Steve fifty p

giant idiot detached from reality, with no idea how the world work, no conception of what other people think or feel, and no willingness to learn.

that's literally me

there's apparently a part in the XFM series where Karl asks Ricky if he's fine with knowing he's going to die alone or something along those lines

one of those times I actually agreed with steve

An idiot lucks into predicting a technology he doesn't understand and clearly works very differently in his own warped mind after spending hours prattling on about absolute shit

Anon Babbletards OMG HE'S SO RIGHT!!! MISUNDERSTOOD GENIUS!

t. ricky

It's the same kind of humor people do for OneyPlays about Tomar emeralds.

That time Karl was describing the issue of qualia by suggesting that doctor's might not really understand exactly how we feel when we describe symptoms to them, and proposed creating a machine that allowed them to experience things in the same way to give a better diagnosis

Stephen and Ricky genuinely don't understand what he's proposing or what he's even talking about, Karl for once actually acts like they're fucking stupid for not getting it

IMO the craziest moment in the whole show because Karl seemed to fully understand what he was grasping at while Stephen and Ricky couldn't even begin to get their heads around it.

Ricky and Steve are well-read morons while Karl is a genius who never got a actual education.

Lmao that frustrated the piss out of me. I came to the general conception of "what if people don't feel things the same way as I do" as a kid when I thought about how some people could tolerate spices better than others. Karl being the only one to get it out of the group was fucking nuts.

"'ow would, um.... 'ow would you feel.. if you dint 'ave breakfast this mornin?"

"That doesn't make any sense at all, I DID have breakfast this morning, Karl, you're talking absolute drivel."

I get what's saying, he conveyed it like a moron.

He didn't convey it in the most concise terms but it was still really clear what he was getting at, the fact that they didn't even get that was wild to me.

he comes across like someone who's really good at bar trivia but doesn't know what any of it means

"why can't the doctor observe internal pain"

Steve is kind of like Ricky but he doesn't even have booksmarts

ricky is unhinged and insecure
making atheism his personality and saying his beliefs are the correct ones makes me sick too

The poison in this frog is potent enough to kill 20 men. Karl gets furious about the idea of a frog being that deadly and wants to know why it would even want to

Karl doesn't understand why you might send some poor people a goat

Karl hears about the technology to perform surgery on something as small as a fly and wonders why people want to perform surgery on flies

Clive Warren

He's an idiot.

it's weird because there's times where Karl only looks at things from a logical perspective, but in this case Ricky and Steve swap that role when it's convenient assuming the topic is about the idea of the invention rather than the practicality of it
there was a segment in one episode where he straight up stops the episode with a "disclaimer" for like 10 seconds saying "btw i don't believe any of this just to get that out of the way"

there was a segment in one episode where he straight up stops the episode with a "disclaimer" for like 10 seconds saying "btw i don't believe any of this just to get that out of the way"

I think the fact that anyone believes any of this shit is real is pretty hilarious.

He constantly has good idea, Ricky. Stop being a fucking asshole.

it's less of the fact that it's scripted and moreso how tiring the format gets. Karl's Diary (ep 7 of Season 1) was good simply because it mixed things up a bit to where they could make fun of Karl in a different way, it's the same reason Monkey News isn't really that good for me personally, I understand it's the stories Karl can pull out of his ass that makes it work but when the punchline is the same and you know what it's going to be (Ricky going "bullshit/bollocks") it takes the buildup out of it, at that point you're just listening to Karl doing an improv story
Regardless of how you feel about Ricky, if it wasn't for him being a laugh track just listening to Karl talking on his own would take a lot out of it, even if it's basically telling the listener to laugh

he said that to steve

daily reminder that the uk is the oppisite of the usa where the further north you are the more the southerners will treat you like a inbred retard

Karl is from manchester (Northerner)

Ricky is from Reading (Southerner)

Stephen is from Briston (Southerner)

Yeah Ricky's sometimes wrong oftentimes I'd argue but his abrasiveness really drives the series forward. You need him to get things moving, you need Karl to seem relatively grounded before he says something totally off the wall, you need Stephen to play Devil's Advocate in regards to what either of them are saying and try to back one of them up to provide support. The show fundamentally would not work if you removed one of the trio.

Yeah that's just kind of a well-known phenomenon. It's the same in Brazil. And Vietnam. And India. And Italy. And so-on. Almost every country that's large enough has a north/south divide, it's just a question as to which side is seen as the backwards one.

we all remember norf fc memes

in the US southerners are literally inbred retards, nords are just mentally ill in a different way
nords in the UK thing probably just comes from royalty interbreeding bias

I really hate how Ricky is trying to be funny by listing overt painful experiences to try and demean his idea. Karl specified that it would be physical conditions that aren't visibly apparent, which is why this machine would be needed.
(Also, you can open a Youtube link in a new tab, and it will autoplay at that timestamped moment if you're unsure on if it's correctly captured or not.)

One of the norf stereotypes is that they're inbred retards.
The Southern US was largely populated with people from the North along with Scots and Scot-Irish. The origin of those stereotypes were born in England m8. It's literally just a reflection of English stereotypes flipped upside-down because of settlement patterns.

HOW COULD A WATCH KNOW WHEN YOU'RE GOING TO DIE!? THINK, KARL!!

tit for tat I suppose, back when I lived in a more rural area it was pretty common to see heroin addicts and I worked with a couple of people that were visibly inbred, like cyraxx-tier people

gothic innit?

Oh man, I remember that episode. It all made perfect sense to me, and I could not understand how Ricky and Steven were being such idiots over it. I really think only people that have had some kind of chronic condition for ages would really understand the reasoning for this. Like my mother had always had some kind of back pain nearly all her life, it just sort of comes and goes with her. It wasn't until she was in her 60's that an unrelated xray showed that she had scoliosis, and her doctors were trying to figure out why they never told her.
"Well that's just how your back feels, isn't it?"

There's a lot of people out there who don't have a concept of maybe your body isn't supposed to hurt in some way all the time.

Ricky annoys me because he thinks he's genuinely an intellectual for thinking and believing what the average person already believes. "Celebrities are a bunch of twats and award ceremonies are just circle jerks so thank your producer and get off the stage" wow such insight from the incredible mind of Ricky Gervais people haven't been saying that for well over 40 years

the "wake up in a perfect world" hypothetical is the one that pissed me off the most because Karl is making some very good points and kind of poking holes in the concept of a utopia while the other two just refuse him outright. What's the point of asking a hypothetical if you just wanted him to choose to be in the perfect world no matter what? Karl is actually exploring the concept

it's probably moreso the fact that he was risking getting whacked by jews, he basically doesn't have a career to worry about losing anymore since he's rich as fuck

All charities are literal scams that usually don't even spend 1% of their profits on the problem they're trying to "fix" and Karl not only points that out but has a much better solution than organizations that do the equivalent of putting a band-aid on a giant gash. Ricky being the genius he is derides Karl and has no better solutions

episode?

season 3 episode 2 pretty sure

British Banter Podcast

I love it.

Emperor Steven is walking around the recording studio naked.

Peasant Karl asks Steven why he is walking around naked.

Courtier Ricky says: "You cur, how dare you slander our king, can't you see he is wearing wonderful silk yee who has a head like a fokin orange?"
