You have to build the things you value where you want them to thrive. What support network have you built up around yourself if your relationship did fail? I also was friends with the weird girl in high school. We dated through college long distance then moved in with each other, and you know what happened? She was miserable, friendless, and spiraled into alcoholism and retail therapy rather than working to fix the things that made us unhappy. The misery drove us both to do desperate shit because we were terrified of solitude but hated what we had. Breaking up was the best thing I ever did, and while she ended up infinitely worse off, that's her life and her failures. I found another woman who is smarter, prettier, more ambitious, and shares more of my hobbies, and now we've been dating longer than I was with my ex. Hell, seeing you be a sadsack got me out of my office to kiss her goodnight a second time because she was still up.

If you care about her, you need to be honest and put the work into the relationship because you're never going to magically find someone you "actually" love and you're not going to be able to love anyone if you don't understand yourself enough to know what you want. If you care about yourself, you'll do that soul-searching and either build something sustainable if you can save this or end it rather than wallow in something good enough until you're 75.
