First look at the King of the Hill revival

DOA

For the love of god stop reviving and rebooting shit!

Holy shit, they got so old.

Hank Hill's Modern Life: Static Cling

Hank looks terrified

I'm getting New Norm vibes from this.

Judge is involved so I'll give it a shot. One of the few reboots i won't shit on without giving a chance.

Hank accidentally drinks the Gay Beer

On the one hand I can't stand revivals. Bit on the other hand, I feel there's a lot of potential behind the idea of Hank in modern times.

Same
Beavis and Butthead managed to stay consistent with 2 revivals. Only downgrade is the animation and even now it's still very much passible. The first 5 episodes back in 92 have far worse animation.

Dale

using a VR device and vaping

not thinking they're both clearly a ploy by the government to track and control people

u fookin wot m8. Any other character I could have excused, but fucking DALE?

boomhaur get ipad

jesus, Boomhauer and Hank look so old

VR and vaping are the cornerstones of being a cuck so I'm not surprised

I was thinking the same damn thing from just looking at the poster

I'm shocked Bill has lived this long
Would have assumed heart attack or suicide

it's another reboot where the main theme is "dude it's 2025 lmao things are different lmao technology technology lmao"

dale being in this feels really wrong.

Not only that but he looks likes changed the least out of all 4 of them

I think his VA managed to record about a season's worth. After that, Toby Huss is said to be his replacement which could work

Dale’s wearing a Bass Pro Shop hat now?

i'd rather them just retire the character after that season honestly. i probably won't watch this anyways since it's ultimately unnecessary.

BOOMHAUER GET IPAD

That's the joke, Wolfcastle. Dale's not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree and he can't see John and Nancy's extramarital affair for what it actually is.

Probably trying to connect to the Gen Z experience for some reason

Bill and Kahn are roomies

recasting Dale because his VA is dead

recasting Kahn because of political correctness

Kill it.

i don't get this shit, King of the Hill had some contemporary episodes but it wasn't like people were looking to it for any sort of commentary. Based on the leaks it looks to be about the same quality level as something like Bless the Harts where I will not be repulsed but will forget everything about it immediately

Dale 100% would think by using those he's getting a leg up on the conspiracy, and then something leads him to destroying the headsets.
Either that or the easier route of its another one of his conspiracy blind spots.

I miss Bless The Harts

The first 5 episodes back in 92 have far worse animation.

bet

They were in theirs early/mid 40 in the original series run so they're likely in theirs early/late 50 in the revival run.

And that's just a guess.

it was a decent contender for replacing King of the Hill, it had that nice quiet vibe that isn't found in Bob's Burgers where Loren Bouchard tries to fill the air as much as possible, but it still felt a bit too restricted

do they all dye their hair? weird detail to miss. they all should have grey hairs by now.

we're old now and also things are different

This doesn't feel like the right kind of vibe for KotH.

dude what if cartoon you know but with modern things ahyukahyukahyukjuuuu

So the revival is confirmed to be bad then, every revival that focuses its attention on low-hanging fruit jokes about modern times ends up sucking.

There is a real phenomenon with people who look old most of their lives that you don’t even notice them age

I’m mixed because I think the original ended with a degree and class that other animated sitcoms never did, but I do like the idea everyone has aged pretty much in real time since the last season. The Beavis and Butthead reboot was surprisingly good but I think those characters are a little easier to pin down

Everyone but Bill looks so much older.

I guess he already reached the worst in the original series.

Beavis and Butthead's continuation worked even with modern references. Not sure why everyone is so cynical

If I recall the show runners said the reboot is set 15 years after the original.
So Hank would be at most, 56.
Then again, the crew played it fast and loose when it came to the timeline at points since bobby turned 13 while Luanne aged 18 to 21 and had a kid.
Floating timeline bullshit n' all.

Most of the episodes follow a basic formula of Hank having to face some new social thing and either adapt or fight it so I feel like it could work if it isn’t so gimmicky

Luanne accidentally buys her daughter tuck friendly swim wear from meg lo mart

Bobby accidentally gets a pepe tattoo thinking it was from sesame street

Peggy gets misgendered at a womans only spa due to her large feet. Daisy Taylor and Natalie Mars guest star.

Dale identifies as female in order to receive a lower auto-insurance rate on the bug-a-bago

Sounds like fun on a bun

I.E. Larry David.

Isn’t that show supposedly in the same universe as KotH?

I WAS LISTENIN

Write fanfic of a show that isnt out yet

Insult your own fanfic of a show that isnt out yet

Classic move.

If Luanne doesn't get fucked by a horse I'm not interested

VR, vapes, drones, uber eats, ebikes, ipads, 5g

Hank is the odd one out, with a very clear expression of "what the fuck"

This is 100% just gonna be The New Norm. They're going to do a character assassination on Hank so he'll be the "out of touch bigoted boomer that learns to cherish the modern age" trope.

Reposting

unnecessary revival

everyone is obsessed with modern tech

everyone is depressed, extremely old, sad, divorced, dead, etc

bad characters are made worse instead of recognizing that things got out of hand when you yourself admitted they did (peggy now being able to drop F bombs and screaming at people having panic attacks)

I want to have faith in Judge but I can't anymore. Everyone's a fucking disappointment in the industry now. Just because there wasn't far to fall with Beavis and Butthead's revival doesn't mean it didn't falter with some modern character designs, puppet animation, and having to see them commentate actual Youtubers. Modern life is inherently not something you want to see when watching Beavis & Butthead regardless of if they make un-PC jokes around a PC college or whatever.

This reboot looks fucking miserable, like actually miserable and not just a term for "bad." I've dreaded it since the announcement but I hate that we're now at that turning point, close to where no one will ever be able to see or think of KoTH the same way we have up until now ever again, because the reboot will permanently be acknowledged too.

I'm so fucking tired, it's impossible to enjoy anything anymore without even the old shit getting ruined. I don't give a damn about the obligatory pansy ass responses about giving it a chance. We've gone through this song and dance a thousand times and nothing shown so far is worth benefit of the doubt. How many times do people need to be beaten down before they recognize a pattern.

Accidentally

BOOMHAUER GET IPAD

Judge will have you sniped for posting these

I like how all the greentexts about some shitty reboot or revival are still generally correct. This is the exact shit someone would mock the poster looking like and they do it anyway with no self-awareness. Not even realizing this is the same shit everyone else has already done.

it's just a poster probably exaggerating the idea for humor

But the poster itself is doing humor everyone's seen a hundred times with these reboots. Someone already called it KoTH Static Cling. The second I opened this image and saw a fucking drone. They definitely had time to make a poster that was not derivative, but they didn't because this is the fucking template they follow and don't give a fuck.

they even aged the characters

what an absolutely retarded thing to do. The reason I hate show revivals is because its depressing to see all the actors get old. Also like look at the simpsons who have not aged in 30 years or whatever. Nobody wants to be confronted with their own mortality when watching a tv show, especially cartoon.

Modern life is inherently not something you want to see when watching Beavis & Butthead regardless of if they make un-PC jokes around a PC college or whatever

Why? B&B are timeless, it only doesn't work when the writers aren't funny.

I don't think writing Hank like that would even work, because he would have to experience and learn about multiple different "modern age" experiences during the time gap, not just the shit in the key art. Speaking of the key art, I really hope it's just a tounge-in-cheek parody and we won't have an episode where Dale vapes and plays VRChat, feeding into the conspiracy theories he schizos about, or Bill orders $2000 of Uber Eats and missing the point of him throwing away the cake in the freezer in the finale.

They don't look old enough desu

I think it takes place 10 years after the finale

Never confirms, but possible since they die have Mega-Lo-Mart feature on the show, but since the store is the Wal-Mart of the King of the Hill world, the show likely didn't take place in Texas but in another Southern State.

Best way for this to go is to just continue on as it did before despite the change in time and to keep the characters freaking out over new technology to a few rare episodes. This picture tells me the entire series is gonna be about Hank being an out of touch boomer about everything new.

Amazon drones aren't even that popular, why do cartoon revivals love them so much. Also why hasn't a single modern cartoon tackled AI yet, that's a thousand times more relevant than muh drones or muh VR.

And they'd have grayer hairs if 10 years passed

Realistically boomhauer and bill would be the types to chill on their devices as oldies . Boom is cool but he also would care less if people judged him for doing it

I didn't know Amazon drones ever came to be, thought they cancelled production of them

I used to be naive and get excited when hearing about reboots or continuations to old shows I used to watch. Until the Clone High reboot happened and made me never get excited or give a shit about them again. Leave them in the past. There’s no way you’ll be able to recapture that magic.

IMG_2107.jpg - 415x310, 26.84K

the show likely didn't take place in Texas but in another Southern State.

The only reason this show is notable to me is because it took place in North Carolina where nothing ever does, and people can't even be assed to fucking remember that even when saying the show was somehow watchable.

They already did a Misgendered Peggy episode.
I remember thinking it fun.

Bill almost looks the same, everyone else is noticeably older. lol

Because delivery drones feel more futuristic and cool and are a thousand times easier to explain to the average normal person than AI.

At least back then they weren't afraid to let Peggy be upset that she was thought as trans because of her feet, which is a realistic route to take when you think people supported your problem but ended up being completely different. Now days you'd upset GLAAD representatives by having Peggy feel upset instead of jumping straight into the happy ending and not even letting her be upset about what happened. Just like how Rocko's Modern Life did where Joe even said they removed any jokes about it because GLAAD didn't like them. You know, the show that openly had a whole gay bashing parody episode that ended with Rocko being chased out of town for liking rainbows. This revival would be hammered down the same ways.

The art's so off it's jarring.
It's like all the props are from a different animation or something.

trans

or a crossdresser, whatever

If the characters aged in real time Hank and Peggy would be 65 today, and Bobby would be 41.

Literally.

IMG_0257.jpg - 1024x576, 203.19K

Maybe they assumed the more old and pathetic Bill looked the less funny the jokes about him would be.

No, Static Cling was a big "fuck you" to its own audience

lectures the viewer that they should not routinely enjoy the things that made them happy

durr hurr change is always good

trannies

If anything, this reboot is just a cash grab, not a soap box for a washed up creator.

Reminder that Judge is going all in on reboots due to being divorce raped back when KotH originally ended

Dale would never buy camera laden modern tech consumables. He'd sooner learn how to make a rigged together FOSS headset than put on something that screams mind control

boohauer gets ipad

choad .png - 667x1119, 1.03M

There's a 5G tower right in the Hill's front yard. This reboot is beyond fucked.

I can't stop imagining old man Boomhauer going on a long confusing speech about how he had a recent prostate cancer scare that he didn't want to tell any of them about until he had definite news and that they should really get their prostates checked regularly to be on the safe side, I tell you whut man. Hank is horrified by hearing about Boomhauer having had someone's finger up his ass, the prospect of having an exam done himself, but foremost about Boomhauer not telling them when he was worried about cancer.

Dale has a private Jellyfin server full of media that he bought, which he shares with the others just because he's worried about them having their viewing habits tracked and controlled by corporations and the government

has to help Bill log back in all the time and starts considering booting him out just because he's such a hassle, but Bill is the one that's happiest to pay for "server upkeep"

They still look the same, but only more ugly.

This could be funny.
Dale isn't a luddite he just wouldn't trust consumer tech and he shouldn't. He'd get a Google pixel with graphene OS and watch Louis Rossman videos to open it up and remove the camera. Like yes Dale is silly and misses the obvious affair going on under his nose but he isn't an anti-conspiracist: he has opposition to valid government/corporate concerns but for silly reasons. He wouldn't insist on having a phone with a detachable battery because advertisers build a profile from your background noise, he'd do it because he thinks always-on phones are nodes in an interference field to prevent benevolent alien transmissions from getting through to warn us about the US government's plans to use space tourism as a ploy to send humans to a waiting alien mothership to be eaten and replaced with doppelgangers.

Bill looks the same, what's his secret??

Kahn's been giving him a lot of his asian life fluid now that they live together.

King of the Hill is the one revival where these kinds of observations feel appropriate. The original series already revolved around generational divides that bring about conflict but end with some level of understanding.

Either way, this is just teaser art meant to drum up discussion so I'm sure the full 20 episodes won't solely go for those types of jokes.

His depression fuels him

ultimately unnecessary

This is a slice of life show what the fuck does this even mean? Every season was "unnecessary"

The Simpsons don't look older but their voices definitely show they are. Marge sounds like shes on death's door and Burns can't even raise his voice anymore.
