she is not super racist

suspension of disbelief status: obliterated

depending on where she's from and how rich she grew up theres a decent chance she didnt even see enough black people to be racist at them

She's a woman from a hundred years ago. She probably didn't get much of a chance to hone the necessary racist reflexes while being trained to maintain a level of manners and decorum beyond the current standards.

She's likely to say something ridiculously, outrageously racist once a year and look at people who're complete exasperated and shocked by it as if she just realized that everybody in the room are retarded children that need to be locked away from the public eye. But she won't argue her point, because that would clearly be discourteous.

You’re more likely to be racist toward people that you aren’t around often.

In the 1920’s you had Jim Crow laws, public lynchings over the slightest offense, real or imagined and actual massacres where communities were burned to the ground and minorities were shot in the street over shit that often was just made up. Teddy Roosevelt was criticized because he had a black man visit the White House once and he would be considered very racist by today’s standard. Also people in the 20’s were far from what we’d call polite today especially when it comes to race. There were some people that were against all that but the majority mindset in most parts of the country was to be openly racist as a default. I mean, like, straight up, a birth of a nation came out in 1915. OP has a point in pointing out that she’s not super racist. She would probably lose her mind seeing non-whites and whites working together depending on where she’s from.

Granted Teddy Roosevelt was President like 20 years prior but the mindset of the people toward race didn’t change much between his presidency and the 1920’s.

Not if it’s black people

The slightest offense like rape or murder lmao

Speaking of Teddyn here's this
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_E._Amos
James E. Amos was his personal bodyguard and assistant and was with teddy when he died. After than, he became an FBI agent. Just food for thought about the time period.

do you think HP Lovecraft was the exception and not the rule?

She's not racist.

Dropped.

No? It is the contrary, people were far more racist because they were with other races (mostly fighting or insulting each other).

Wasn't he considered a racist even by the standards of the time?

Anyway, you're missing my point. There were a lot of people from the past who were ahead of their time in unexpected ways. William Blake comes to mind. Who's to say Poppy wasn't one of them?

Actually, he kind of was. Not to say everyone was singing kumbaya and preaching unity, but most people actually didn't view other ethnic group as subhuman animals. Lovecraft was an outsized racist even in a time when most people were pro-segregation.
Of course he's still one of the greatest fiction authors of all time, and I'd rather his most strident opinion pieces be read aloud at The Super Bowl than listen to one more of these cum guzzling hipster faggots bad mouth him while trying to sell a game/comic/short film cribbing elements of his fiction.

depending on where she’s from.

Being from a northern state would do the trick, I understand.
Her first racist comment probably would be about whether negros are allowed to use the stairwell here.

I was team leader on a janitorial contract when i was 22 and i'll never fucking work with anyone black ever again no matter the reason.

It's the opposite. Only way to keep whites from turning racist is segregation

Wasn't he considered a racist even by the standards of the time?

No he was considered a psychotic mess who was afraid of goddamn everything. He was just as terrified as non British whites as he was blacks, asians, latinos, whatever else. The dude wrote a horror story because his neighbors air conditioner gave him nightmares. The whole lovecraft is a racist thing is something that's blown completely out of proportion and context. It's not wrong but it's not right either and most people are all to happy to leave out the bit were he recants most of his previous beliefs.

If she was Northern, it would actually be against Irish and Polacks

what was his cats name

That's the complete opposite of true. There's a reason teachers go into "teach in a shitty inner-city school" programs all bright eyed and bushy tailed saying "blacks are people too, they just need education to improve their communities and I'm going to help" and come out saying "niggers are not human"

I read somewhere that he didn't name niggerman - it was a friend who gifted the cat to him, or his wife

My favorite kind of leftist disillusionment are the ones who go to africa for humanitarian help.

After all that, he somehow married a Jewish woman?

I think he had more than one cat with that name through his life?

That reminds of an article about a black woman who went to South Africa in the late 80's to cover apartheid. When talked to the people there, she got major culture shock. She found blacks to be very sexist and the most profound discussions of race were with South African whites. The article ends with her saying in America she was taught how black she was. In South Africa, she learned how American she was.

Can't resist them Kazar milkers

No he was considered a psychotic mess who was afraid of goddamn everything

A good example of this is beyond the wall of sleep, its basically a long tirade about how rednecks are sub-humans, also, the shadow over innsmouth, that story everyone interprets as a cautionary tale about the dangers of race mixing, was written after he found out one of his great grandparents was welsh

The famous one? Niggerman, and it was his father's cat, he just never changed the name despite not liking it because the cat was very old and he didn't think it would be fair to start calling it something else too late in life

Apparently there’s a comic strip where poppy says racist shit on accident due to her insensitivity or whatever, and she said the N word.
He did but apparently was still a racist leading her to leave him

In the north, they killed people who were known to associate with the negro. Like if the community knew your shop did business with negros, the mob would drop by eventually.

read the most recent comic

Literally fat punk tintin

Okay?

Lovecraft wasn't considered a racist by the standards of the time, as he wasn't advocating for sterilization, eugenics, segregation, or genocide - but rather just didn't like the influx of immigrants from non-Germanic countries. His biggest freakout was when he found out he was 1/8th Welsh and thus Celtic instead of pure Anglo Saxon. This was fairly normal and moderate, and he also had a healthy perception of Anglo Saxon culture in that it was not the pinnacle of existence but rather just a thin layer of rust in the geological time scale.

holy BASED

just reminded how Little Lulu's creator didn't want her to ever have black friends, lmao

Gave her a black auntie in the show though. But then again she lived in a nice house and was payed well and wasn't lazy like most today. Yet she's supposed to be the stereotype.

yes he was, the avarage racist was at his time was alredy over stuff like pure anglo shit, if you were white( not catholic) you were fine.

Even if she's not strictly racist she should still refer to people as negroes and chinamen.

If there's one thing that Anon Babble in particular has taught me, it's that a lot of racists, and especially ones with hangups about jews, really want to breed with them.

Alright so, typically speaking, super rich people or people of noble blood won't be "racist" as we typically view it when they come into contact with people of other races.
It's more like, if you're ethnic/disabled/from a poor family, they treat you as an object of fascination. They want to know the circumstances someone overcame, learn the ways in which the people below them live. They have armed guards or live in gated communities so even if they have this idea of "the black savage" in their head, they still feel safe and want to know about how the black people in front of them "rose above the savage origins."

There's a big reason why the back to Africa movement failed.

hurr durr cat

Yeah this is the exact shit I'm talking about. You're sheep.

A lot of it really boils down more to classism.

a story for children doesn't contain a racist main character

color me shocked

Why do so many zoomtards want everyone from back then to be racist? Racism was certainly more active the further back you go but they were also the ones who did the most the try and fix things.

There's a big reason why the back to Africa movement failed.

Liberia is fucking hilarious though. Niggas literally created a transplant of the Old South over there, with cotton and slavery and with the Americans on top.
Absolute pottery.

Next ya all going to tell that the Founding Fathers all had holiday hideouts in Haiti.

based, she just wanted to avoid any Anon Babble shit at the time
