DC refusing to undo the New 52 is the single biggest act of stubbornness ever from a comics publisher.

Batman's stupid (but sexy) bodyguard who tried to make a sidekick then left to die in prison when he got accused of murdering Vesper Fairchild, abandoned his Bruce Wayne identity completely to be Batman all day long and lived in a tiny bunker while isolating all his friends. What?

This was actually the very first Batman issue i read i bought it at a kiosk and thought it was cool because i only ever read Asterix comics and Ducktales comics as a child
Its also very confusing timeline wise because i remember court of the owls was being published at the exact same time you had one issue about joker riping of his skin and another about a secret society of Owlman trying to beat the Batman
Utlimately i thought it was stupid and to confusing to follow 3 different storylines which are all being published in 5 different comic book series and went back to what i usually read

This design is fine as the look he has before switching to a more humanoid look to fight Superman.

Its confusing and probably wasnt planned properly. I own the Snyder run and the face cliffhanger is missing, dumb decision. Research didnt help much. Joker did it for no reason.

BUT the dumbest thing is that another character wears the face after Death of the Family, and the face doesnt completely rot until Endgame.

Tony Daniels was an up and coming artist DC wanted to lock down to an exclusive contract but he would only do it if he got a Batman book to writer and draw and for him to have major say over the direction of the character. DC agreed but then New 52 happened and Scott Snyder (who wrote Detective Comics while Daniels wrote Batman) didn't want to share Batman with Daniels and bullied editorial to make the two switch books so he got the main Batman and Daniels stuck on the traditionally B-book Detective Comics. And for additional spite, Snyder bullied editorial to force an embargo on nearly the entire Batman Rogue gallery save for Batman #1, where Snyder got to use everyone while everyone else got forced to create lame new villains to use.

This pissed off Daniels, who had gone along with being forced off the A-Book by being told he would get the Morrison treatment and that Detective Comics would be a flashback book with Daniels getting to establish the new canon lore and backstory for Batman and his rogue gallery.... who he now was forbidden from doing because Snyder was a cunt who didn't want to share control over the franchise.

DiDio stepped in to placate Daniels, by telling Snyder that Daniels would be given a single issue to use Joker and write him out of lore along with mandating the use of the "young Commissioner Gordon" design that Daniels made across the board as his new design. Daniels came up with the face removal plotline with the plan promised him, that he would get to write Joker's first major arc in Detective Comics but Snyder backstabbed him with the help of Batman editorial, stealing Joker's first new 52 arc from Daniels and getting him fired from Detective Comics/replaced with the hack John Layman.

Snyder didn't write the story with the face removal. That happened in Detective Comics #1.

See for what happened. Snyder and Batman editorial didn't like how Tony Daniels got Dan DiDio to give him the main Batman book after editorial favorite Judd Winnick ran it into the ground and killed sales after Morrison left the main Batman book, or that Daniels was a favorite of Morrison's (which is how he got the sweetheart contract). So they went out of their way to fuck Daniels over and the face removal was Daniels fucking them over in return.

Sure but it was required information. A later issue of his run also added a non-Snyder story to introduce the Arkham intern (whos Endgame Joker in disguise).
Maybe that was the OG plan for face-off Joker, hiding in plain sight-

It was iirc. Before DotF and End Game you see characters commenting that joker could look like anyone.

To be entirely fair to Bruce, there was no way he was getting her out of prison legally before he found the actual killer. He was an asshole in that run but the whole situation was fucked.

Weird right, they did nothing with it before DOTF.

Bruce Wayne: Fugitive suffered when editorial pushed Rucka/Brubaker to drag out the ending.
Sasha Bordeaux was the perfect supporting character. She came in, did her thing, then "died" and got spun out into the wider DCU. Modern Batman writers should take a hint from this instead of trying to shove their OCs into every facet of the Batman books.

Red and Blue could've been so successful but having this in the first issue killed it

John Byrne didn't like the character so he intentionally made him goofy and lame.

It's more complicated than that: they de-retconned Brainiac from being an android to a flesh and blood Coluan but then did some fuck ass mind transferrance thing and had him puppeting a human on Earth for a while, but I think they ended up forgetting about it cuz eventually he just went back to being green with his head implants (kept the beard for a while though)
