Instead of stealing from pop culture the writers should really do their homework on sci-fi short stories, old radio dramas, pulp magazines and whatnot. Steal and Rick-and-Morty-fy these concepts. That’s what Twilight Zone did and people love it.

Yeah, I mentioned this in the debut thread, the morty montages were flashy enough to be entertaining, it had no emotional impact on me whatsoever because we've already seen Morty do this shit like 4 or 5 times now, 6 times if anyone actually sat through that horrible tranime.
Not too mention the base premise is already retread of the vat of acid episode...and the reset button episode, just with Summer in the mix.
The only cool part was seeing Rick not treat Morty like a piece of shit for 2 minutes.

To play devil's advocate to the people saying this plot has been done before, the writers did at least try to put another twist on it in the sense that it's the first time that they've lived a full life in some virtual reality, got out, and then had their experience kickstart the plot of the episode. This is different compared to

Mortynight Run which played it as a few minute joke before brushing it off

The Vat of Acid Episode in which although Morty experience a lot still wasn't a simulation and it barely had an effect on the main plot

Rick: A Mort Well Lived which was the A-plot where Morty's conscious was split amongst the npcs

Fear No Mort which was another few minute gag but done in a fakeout style

Anyone else disappointed with Morty's characterization and development, looking back and thinking about the roads not taken? I like him as a character, but they could've done more with him if they weren't so fixated on writing The Rick Sanchez Show from season 3 onwards. It feels like the writers just forgot or don't really care that Morty has, or should have, stuff going on under the hood too so to speak. When they acknowledge it, it usually feels like an afterthought. Except Fear Hole which was good with his character.
