What's appealing about this comic?

Melodramatic high school romcom with cute expressive furries. A lot of people are here because they're simply stuck on the ride; the pace is excruciatingly slow and the characters make infuriatingly dumb decisions that derail the story for years. Some people just like watching the trainwreck.

It's an idea I hadn't considered but makes a lot of sense. Lucy tries to avoid thinking about her problems; Augustus does not. He'd be the type to see an oncoming train wreck and at least try to avoid it. He'd also be absolutely right to assume Lucy would spiral once her security blanket is gone (and would blame that at least partly on Mike since, prior to EF, Lucy might have just stayed in frigid bitch mode instead). Augustus is leaving but Mike isn’t. Ergo, Gus has to get a situation update ready to go, because once he is out of the picture what's stopping Lucy from trying to latch back onto Mike? And what is to stop Mike from caving in out of guilt/loneliness? Augustus needs to extract some promises, either to amp up the drama potential or maintain the status quo for another half-decade.

He has forgotten that Lucy is her own biggest problem.

Because Taeshi abandoned anything close to normal body proportions way back in Volume 4. She had two options: Get better at basic anatomy, something she's always been weak at, or go chibi and pretend her incompetence was an artistic choice. The comic's art style has never recovered. As for the effeminate guys, it's pretty obvious whenever Taeshi draws over 3d posers, and that she only ever uses female ones.

Taeshi refuses to elaborate, but it's probably a mixture of latent guilt and feeling fundamentally worthless with some imposter syndrome thrown in.

Mike's height was portrayed as fairly normal back in the second and third volumes. The stupidly Steven Universe shit didn't kick in until after Taeshi decided that bobbleheads were a brilliant artistic direction to take.
