Is it really so hard to writte a crossover?
Is it really so hard to writte a crossover?
I don't know if I'd say it's hard so much as American Dad has nothing to gain from crossing over with a show less funny than itself
they already crossed over in a non-cutaway gag way, in stewie's movie stan and the cia guy meet brian and stewie and they fail to stop stewie from taking over the world
they're going in thinking it needs to be a crossover between the entire family
like the simpsons crossover had to force interactions between lisa and meg and couldn't even find an angle on lois and marge
they should just focus on the guy and the dad interacting. no one really thinks about how is steve and chris gonna do shit together
It was impossible for the last ten years given American Dad’s move to TBS.
But now…. It’s possible again
Steve would finally get laid with Meg.
Meg is 18, Steve is 14
Characters in both shows changed a lot throughout the past decade.
Lois and Francine are way more unhinged nowadays,
Peter and Stan are dumb but also prone to chaos,
Hayley and Meg are more free-spirited than before.
A crossover would be interesting
Considering the type of shows these are, I don't think that would stop them. Plus let's be honest, Meg would go for it.
Lois and Francine would fight to the death and then eventually have intense sex
would rape.
Roger runs away during one of his reproductive cycles and hides in the Griffin's house, impregnates one of them as well
Family Guy got too soft
American Dad got too weird
Maybe it could work, but two wrongs don’t make a right
American Dad got too weird
It's never been more enjoyable. Or do you want another five minute scene of Roger struggling to make himself some Kool-Aid
It had a good balance of grounded and wild. Now, it’s too wild, to the point that it’s mind-numbing.
Characters are all equally unhinged now, takes away the fun.
five minute scene of Roger struggling to make himself some Kool-Aid
This never happened
where's jeff?
He was in space during this point
He's right. As soon as it left FOX it stopped being relatively grounded with whacky CIA hijinks where Stan has a job to... Stan becomes an astronaut tier shit. Like the Simpsons where Homer has a new job every week. It also stopped being grounded and started becoming more like Rick and Morty in terms of sci-fi (and I am convinced the suits screamed this at a meeting). Introduction of new characters, removal of old characters, forcing of old characters (Dr Weinstein for example) and absurd humour (like that episode where Tuttle randomly splits into little birds or something). Not to mention all the Member Berries like constantly mentioning Reginald or randomly dropping RICCCCKKKY SPAAANNNISH or RAIDER DAVE into episodes because they can't write a joke. Or even fucking JEEENNNNNYYY!
They officially jumped the shark. It is still funny and enjoyable to watch it just is nowhere near as good as it used to be. Hell, pretty sure in one episode they just flat out state that they're doing it for the college kids smoking pot. Which is the same joke they've done on Cleveland Show iirc. The multiverse episode where they go
Oh yeah all those episodes where the world ends or people die or whatever, those aren't the actual real Smith family, this is the real Smith family
Then insults people when they pause to read the text that comes on screen. Funny joke I get it but if you're basically going "Whatever, who cares about anything" then the show doesn't really have a point. Before there was a show, events happened, sometimes brought up or mentioned again, but now they only do it if it fills up time. Like last season, Francine gets a garden. She already had a garden in an earlier episode. Or Francine wants to grow vegetables to make her food... She already did that in the Camp Refugee episode. Do the writers know? Maybe. Do they care they're pretending ot didn't happen? Nope. It's a different reality!
w-w-why do you care?!
It is essentially R&M level irrelevance now.
If it wasn't for the weirdness, there wouldn't be Dadders and the show wouldn't have been kept warm for a decade by Turner for Fox to take it back. It turns out people who get high as fuck and spin to Phish noodling have really funny ideas that can only be realized by cartoons.
If one has to be high to enjoy something, that isn’t a great sign
Funny joke I get it but if you're basically going "Whatever, who cares about anything" then the show doesn't really have a point.
Yeah, that sarcastic irony is really old. It's really just telegraphing a lack of confidence in your show, and if they don't think their work is worth watching why should I?
If anything that happens can be hand waved away as 'It was another reality' then I have no real connection with any of the characters or care about them. If something happens to them, why does it matter? I know status quo and all that but it really does suck. Also there is that episode where Stan and Francine go back in time and Haley is still around. Which means that she is Stan's daughter. Remember that entire episode about whether Haley was Stan's daughter and he learned that it doesn't matter because he raised her? Well they either forgot that episode happened or Haley is his daughter or... IT'S ANOTHER REALITY SO IT DOESN'T MATTER!
Like that episode where a giant monster destroys the world. What was the point of that episode? They just wanted to do an episode about that? If it becomes a case of throwing darts at a board with random ideas on it and you don't care enough about the show to have stakes or continuity then yeah why should I care? Doesn't mean the show is bad, it just means it lost a lot of charm in it. I can't enjoy characters who don't change or grow. Go watch S1 + S2 Stan versus now. I know all cartoon characters eventually change or 'Flanderize' but now it's a kinda 'Who cares'. And doing constant 'Do you even work here any more Smith?' jokes does get tiring. Stan being in the CIA only matters when they need a new Rick and Morty tier gadget to go and do some episode about a thing they want to do instead of something else.
Steve already got laid
With who? Snot?
Will we finally get a chicken fight with Peter and Stan after a full decade?
Do Family Guy and American Dad NEED a full-on crossover, though? I'm very content with the little nods and cameos we get every once in a while: youtube.com
doesn't mention Chris meeting Steve or Stewie and Brian meeting Roger and Klaus
come on, anon
We missed on them for a decade thanks to American Dad moving to TBS
no one really thinks about how is steve and chris gonna do shit together
Steve and Chris start a band. Steve can't get chicks and Chris goes hard into drugs and fucks everything up. Stewie and Roger are their manager and fight about the direction of the band.
Roger took Steve’s virginity
Knew it was something gay
whoa ass ahoy
Peter and Stan have nothing in common
I love Peter's subdued li'l smile there, so cute!
yea, and Homer and Bender have nothing in common neither. What's your point?
Normal words
American Dad is smart funny
Family Guy is stupid funny
They dont mix like you think. It's like having a little brother trying to make fun of you and hes funnier than you but you still outshine because you're older than him. Family guy is still funnier than the Simpsons have been in the last 10 years.
Do they need a crossover again? No desu. They could make it work for a movie but not eps all the time. MAYBE a cameo at most.
you literally stole that from my thread JUST now.
Homer and Bender have lots in common. Peter is a moron and Stan is a highly trained killer for the CIA. What would they do together?
Brian probably has a better shot with Francine than he does with Lois
We got this one not too long ago
