Goof Troop is before the Movie, a Goofy Movie is at the Very Early-mid of Max high school years max and PJ are 14-16, The sequel is where they go to college, pretty much the late 90's like undergrads seeing that is all focused on the x-games.
Also is no coincidence that Max's College Librarian and Teacher looks like Peg's twin.

I don't pretend to know shit. All I know is that I really fucking hated the show and that would have influenced my decision in watching the movie. Finding out that the movie was 3 years after the show is quite shocking, since they turned garbage into peak.

The writers probably couldn't find a good reason to have the rest of Pete's family in the movie. Pete and P.j. were on a father/son camping trip.
I get that they didn't wanna waste time in the first movie for characters who barely get any lines. I don't get why they don't show up for at least a background cameo in the sequel or why they never show up in any other media. It almost feels like a weird copyright issue, like, "Oh, these characters can only be used for Goof Troop", but that makes no sense. Disney should own 100% of them.
It kind of feels like a retcon where Disney wants Pete and PJ to be a direct mirror to Goofy and Max, so they simplified it by erasing the rest of his family.
