Gaslight District

It’s been a month since the premiere and most of the initial merch sales have been delivered. Are we green lit yet or what?

I bought the plush of the MC despite the fact that i havent sat thru the whole pilot yet i just thought she was hot

I loved this pilot and can't wait for the next episode, but most of Anon Babble either don't care about it or hate it which is a shame

Are all indie cartoons doomed to be mix of comedy and lore-based semi episodic show, optionally, but likely, taking place in hell?

I don't usually go for deformed figurines but I grew up around 80's horror schlock and gross out 90's cartoons.

At least until the formula gets stale, and someone else pulls something else out of their butt.

same but I didn't buy the plush

Meta Runner: Teri

Sunset Paradise: Meggy

Murder Drones: Uzi

The Amazing Digital Circus: Pomni

Gaslight District: Mel

Oh, that's diff---

short for Melancholy

Never mind...

No, we are gas lit

I like the big lead sled they drive but I don't like how they didn't spend any time on sound design to make it really come to life.
there's really nothing more infuriating to me than when cars just sortof make a generic whizzing sound.

Think the only Glitch pilot that "failed" (read: didn't turn into a full series) was their Meta Runner spin-off starring that kid from the game within the series

Hell is just a setting like any other. It's used far less than most other settings which is why it seems noticeable. Mainstream medie tended to shy away from using hell as a regular setting because it would piss off the Christan parents, so while they could get away with an episode or two, you wouldn't get it as the default backdrop.

Indie creators fill in this gap. Since hell was such an underrepresented setting, people started dreaming up stories that could take place there and since they didn't have to worry about angry investors and facebook moms, they just went for it. It can feel a touch cliche by now, but remember that most of the shows set in hell right now were initially conceived like 10 years ago. These were kids who grew up with invader zim and hot topic and filrted with gothy things taking the next logical step.

Still, it's more noticeable because it's used far less than a big city, a suburb, the woods, outer space, etc. You'll notice hell because it sticks out, while a show set in a living room is far more common but won't be pointed out because it's so common you don't even notice it.

Creative endeavors are reflections of the times. Mobsters, cowboys, space race, civil rights, nuclear apocalypse, corporate greed, climate change, identity politics, AI. If artists put out Hell it's Hell they're in and this is them trying to express that. Notice how Hell isn't eternal ironic punishment in fire pits and little imps poking you in the ass with pitchforks anymore? It's an exciting exaggerated clown world reflection of the actual clown world we live in. A world of constant pointless distraction, meaningless pursuits, dwindling rights, anti intellectualism, social judgment from all sides and you never even have to leave you house for it.

Meta-Runner was also created by one of the founders, so they probably felt more comfortable cancelling one of their own shows than someone else's.
I've seen generally positive discussion about it. It just seems like Anon Babble doesn't care because it didn't receive the unbridled autism that TADC did.
The internet is reeling from DCDS (Digital Circus Derangement Syndrome) where people get the false impression that TADC should be used as a baseline standard. I've seen anons argue that an indie pilot is a flop because it took 3 days to hit a million views whereas TADC did a billion in the first hour or something ridiculous like that (not actual numbers, but you know what I mean).
The gaslight district pilot got 15 million views in about a month. I think they're doing fine.

Every creator wants their IP to be successful but all this came so fast and hard. I don't envy Goose right now.

Are we green lit yet or what?

You do realize Glitch putting out a Pilot episode means the rest of the series is already in production right? Glitch funds and produces their own shows so it's not lile they need to wait for investment or backing from another company.

It took a year for episodes of Murder Drones to come out after the Pilot while Glitch were finishing Meta Runner.
It took a year for episodes of The Amazing Digital Circus to come out after the Pilot while Glitch were wrapping up production of the final episodes of Murder Drones.

Glitch's pipeline is getting faster so the next episodes of Gaslight District will lilely be coming out alongside the tail-end episodes of The Amazing Digital Circus.
When TADC finishes, Gaslight District will be the main show running until Knights of Guinivere starts up.

Honestly I expect to see more of that than just the island, you know, others districs around.

Fortunately Goose isn't a brand new creator. She's already been part of other games and animations so hopefully the idea of doing something post-TADC won't be crippling. She's also a very private person which helps keep the internet bloodsports to a minimum. Ideally she'll be able to parlay the attention from TADC into subsequent career successes.
inb4 "she". I know Goose is trans and I honestly don't give a fuck. If someone wants to be called "she" or "he" or "they", it literally doesn't bother me to politely abide by their wishes. I'll draw the line at invented pronouns like "xe".

You do realize Glitch putting out a Pilot episode means the rest of the series is already in production

Do you work at Glitch? That may not actually be true. I think they gauge reaction from the pilot before going into production for sure. If the reaction to Gaslight was pathetic, they may have decided not to move forward. As another anon pointed out, they decided against pursuing a meta-runner spinoff. It just so happens that response to all their other pilots have pretty much knocked it out of the park.

I always wonder if Glitch is taking on too many projects at once
How big is the studio

well we have salad fingers for a change.
outsider trading is merely weird.

Anon, Meta Runner and Sunset Paradise was well before Glitch's current model of bringing in outside creators to be showrunners of their shows. Meta Runner and Sunset Paradise were showran by Glitch's CEOs Luke and Kevin.

You are right that Glitch could decide against putting a show's episodes into the pipeline if they see the reception of the Pilot is terrible, but if you look at how Murder Drones (Liam Vickers) and TADC (Gooseworx) have gone down with their production, and the timing between episode releases, you have a pretty good idea of how Glitch operates.

Main point is, episodes of Gaslight District are definitely already in the pipeline and the full series is being worked on.
There's no "greenlit" with Glitch.

They were doing two shows at a time near the end of Murder Drones (post-TADC premiere). If they're getting more money and hiring more people, it makes sense they'd try to stretch their capabilities and more on more than one show at once. If it ever gets too much, they could always put one show on the backburner and call it a "hiatus" (which, by their standards, would mean QUITE a bit).

*and work on more

Yes. Indie animation needs to be funded somehow, and just like modern corporate animation, it's too risky to be experimental.

what could possibly go wrong?

Also another thing to consider was Murder Drones success had a similar track record. The current number you see now of it being like 80 million is more of a result of replays, its initial launch was also 10 in little less then a month. If that show got its full run with those numbers then Gaslight will be fine.

You're right, anon, but we should also note that the pilot episode of Murder Drones is cheaper. A LOT cheaper. Like, I suspect several TEN times cheaper than the Gaslight District pilot because the animations and graphics are literally on completely different levels, so there's still the question of whether the GD pilot is actually as successful as we think it is.

You have to consider that the Murder Drones pilot was right at the start when Glitch just started doing shows like this, and now at this point Glitch also has the additional revenue from selling merch for both Murder Drones and TADC - ontop of the merch for Gaslight District.

Glitch has grown by orders of magnitude since then anon. The GD pilot has performed fine and both of Glitch's previous shows have been big successes.

Yeah, I'd fuck Mel

I'll draw the line at invented pronouns like "xe"

Based and there's-a-limit-pilled

I understand, I just mean Glitch is a commercial studio, they make cartoons to make money, and lots of money.

The way I see it is that if they invested one dollar in Murder Drones, Glitch made a net profit of about three dollars, then if they invested one dollar in Gaslight District, they might make two or one and a half, maybe even less. That's the way investments work.

I don't know show business, so I'm not even going to make a guess as to whether that's the case, I'll just wait and see what happens.

Without access to the backend we're really not going to know how well the pilot did unless or until Glitch tells us.

Understandable, have a nice day

called "Gaslight District"

no scene of Mel lighting a monster brap to make a flamethrower

Needs her goofy eyes

I liked it, but it felt it has no actual plot outside cool worldbuilding.

Don't like that the only thing resembling a human runs around in skintight "mummy clothes" so she can flant what's basically a perfectly proportioned egirl bodytype. blatant horny is just boring.

Am I the only one that thought the GD pilot was mediocre? It felt like a full course, food analogy aside.
The MD and especially TADC pilots had that hook that made me want to see where this world goes, I couldn't care less if GD was made into a full series.

more like ass-fight this-dick

It was alright. I thought it was interesting enough and I want to see what's going to happen between Mel and Ken.

she

she gas my district till I light

if they invested one dollar in Murder Drones, Glitch made a net profit of about three dollars, then if they invested one dollar in Gaslight District, they might make two or one and a half

That's wonky math. The visibility of Glitch productions is WAY higher now than it was when they made Murder Drones. Sure, they're investing more in productions now, but their audience base has absolutely exploded since Murder Drones.
