So, I know that this show comes with a lot of baggage, but I just finished it and I have some stuff I want to talk about.

First of all: horrible director, amazing animators. The first episode was actually pretty alright, and I’ll even throw 75% of episode 2 in there too—before the lady part (I’ll talk about her later).

Secondly, the fight choreography wasn’t that bad, but again, I feel like this has no right to be 8 episodes long. They clearly felt the need to stretch it out for some reason while banking on getting a season 2.

Thirdly, what the hell was that demon-fighting squad? They folded in their first mission simply for being stupid and not having each other’s backs. I could buy into humans being able to fight demons, but them freezing the moment they see one of their teammates die is just stupid. And the lady had the stupidest plot armor in history.

Episode 6 was good—it actually caught me off guard. I was impressed with it, and in all seriousness, I don’t think White Rabbit is that bad. I do love me a villain who commits to the bit.

Dante is pretty cool, and a lot of his fights were fun. I’ll excuse his sense of humor as him trying to find his personal style.

The CGI was stupid. The animation was really good in a lot of ways, so I have no idea why they thought they needed that. The demons weren’t even that complicated—they could’ve just drawn them like everybody else.

The vice president plot makes no sense. I get it—Muh allegory and blah blah blah—but why hasn’t a single person asked what type of hell they’re dealing with? They even went there and none of them thought to ask, “Which hell is this exactly?” Are there human souls hanging around? Where’s Lucifer? And capital G God? I get it, religious fundamentalism, but even if I were in his shoes, I wouldn’t go there looking for trouble. The moment that big guy demon lord notices, he’ll try to come to Earth. So why didn’t he just nuke the hell out of Hell and close the rifts for good?

So I wrote all of this for nothing? Thanks anons, I really appreciate the enthusiastic discussion of cartoons on the cartoons board.

everyone knows this was doodoo feces.

But that doesn't mean there's no room for discussion.
Like I'm genuinely wondering what the fuck is everyone's next move? The hell bombing and establishing a colony was so retarded because you're telling Virgil works for the big bad guy and said bad guy just let that happen while having giant disgusting demons?

So I wrote all of this for nothing?

Pretty much yes. Anon Babble is for twitter bait threads, Anon Babble shitposting and all that nonsense. I've given up trying to make threads about cartoons to discuss them. Go find Dante topless or something with

God he's so hot, who is hotter in cartoons?

As the OP and people will come in and then discuss it there.

You didn't post a means for discussion, you just posted a review about a show most of the internet has already moved on from.

maybe people just don't want to discuss a shitty cartoon that takes a big ogre shit all over the source material.

It's unfortunate but I thought effort posting would at least be enough for some anons here, most of the other blue boards have gone to shit but I can get some meaningful discussion sometimes on Anon Babble and Anon Babble

You didn't post a means for discussion

I apologize but have you missed my numerous question marks? What was I supposed to do.
Post a soft porn picture of lady or Dante like that anon suggested or I was supposed to post L bozo to show that I'm interested in talking about something I've just finished?

So I wrote all of this for nothing?

Pretty much. Most people have moved on at this point like with Castelvania because it's neither good nor bad enough to make fun of, just kind of stupid and middling.

amazing animators.

Is this some copy-pasta?The animation is shit. The choreography is SO UNINSPIRED. The coolest move preformed, is just Dante retreading the pool table trick from the opening of 3, except less cool cause he used the actual pool queue instead of a bullet. Ont-op of that, the effects are dodgy and the 3d is TERRIBLE
I stopped reading at the word "animators"

Well thank you for at least trying and I'm still standing with my opinion, I thought the characters' designs looked good and cool for the most part.

To be fair, any level of animation would be impressive considering picrel is the industry standard

I thought the characters' designs looked good and cool for the most part.

Eh
Dante's design is OK but its not really something to write home about
The suspenders, and normal ass undershirt are very odd, and the pendant being the DmC design is fucking stupid. He also doesn't ever really look cool or menacing or slightly creepy like he does in the best shots of the games and anime and i think a big part of that are how they draw his facial expressions and how short his hair is
Its not bad but i hesitate to say that its something the show does "well" its just whatever.
The sad thing is that dantes design is the best one in the show. Do i really need to go into why Lady's design sucks ass or her gay ass teammates?

The main issue I have with the design of the show aren't the characters though, its the setting. Dante being in a technologically advanced NYC gets rid of a huge part of his cool factor.
The imagery of a man in bright read dual wielding hand-canons (and not barretas. I know there referencing the novel but its still gay) was made specifically to contrast the dark dreary atmosphere of gothic castles and demonic hellscapes, while at the same time still looking "demonic" in its own right. Like ash in army of darkness but with anime dna. On top of just being badass It helps subtly contribute to his character and how he doesn't fit as either human or demon
The show just throws it out and puts him in New York with some power rangers (except power rangers actually look cool and not gay)

I Guess... but I'm not gonna not complain about the shit on my plate just because there are a few nuggets of corn in em

I see your point and yeah I agree with your criticism.
My mind honestly just blurred the entire killing demons squad for how pointless they were and I was confused for a while about the time period because of how it mixes multiple time periods with futuristic technology and such
Anyways thanks again for your opinion, it's been a great read.

I apologize but have you missed my numerous question marks?

Here's some helpful advice. When writing a review, questions can very easily often be read as rhetorical. That is, it doesn't sound like you're asking for answers as much as you're calling attention to something that makes no sense. Especially in the regard that we clearly don't have any more information than you do, so I'm not sure why you thought we might be able to provide information.

I read the rest of the post and I gotta ask - genuine question have you played any of the games?

the fight choreography wasn’t that bad

Not only is it more generic than the games, in a lot of places it makes less logical sense than them somehow . Just compare the bike scene with 3 with the bike scene from the show. Something that stood out to me in the show was when he jumped through the side windows of that car, and there where no passengers in the car despite it just driving on the freeway. I I'm not trying to nitpick cinema sins style when i say this, I just think the fact that the show had to make people dispensary show its lack of creative choreography because I guarantee you that if that same scene was in a game, Dante would dodge the humans in the car or take them out or slice the car into specific pieces that let all the humans slide out on the rubble unscathed or SOMETHING raw instead just ignoring logic so the unoriginal stock slow mo car flip can happen

Episode 6 was good

It falls apart as soon as you realize how retarded the allegory is

I’ll excuse his sense of humor as him trying to find his personal style.

I fucking hated his quips. I know its a new universe with a "YOUNGER" (BY ONE YEAR) Dante but it just felt like the writers just wrote a shitty deadpool version instead of Dante.Dante is not a clown nor a comedian, he does not quip to be seen as "funny", he quips because he enjoys mocking demons. He finds their miserable existence sad and pathetic compared to humans. The only time he was really "clown like" was when he was attempting to put an emotional wall between him and lady during that badass fight they had in 3 (The cutscene one not the boss fight)
Dante is not a clown, he is an executioner who mocks his pitiable victims

None of them thought to ask, “Which hell is this exactly?”

Didn't they have a scientist or something explain that it was just another dimension with humans? wasn't be part of the military i mean?

I actually thought the show was a 10/10 and I've played through the 1st, 3rd, and 4th games. Ask me anything

I actually thought the show was a 10/10

Why?

T. Beaten all 5 mainline games many many times

I actually thought the show was a 10/10

No you didn't.

Don't worry, anon. That's just an acknowledgement that you're pretty much 100% correct. It's a wonderful thing, to see such consensus on a piece of media. It mainly occurs with the "just plain good" and the "mostly inoffensively bad". Non-storytime threads about Bone, for example, will usually be pretty succinct.
For something to be conducive to discussion, it either has to be astonishingly good, hilariously godawful, or so middling (or at least has aspects that vary heavily between quality and shit) that you have people on either side trying to argue over it.

Welcome to Anon Babble!

All I wanted to see Dante kill demons in cool and stylish ways while making as many funny one liners as possible and the show delivered.

Yes I did.

Also, is it me, or is the final scene of episode 8 as close as we're going to get to Gate season 2?

The main problem is that speculation feels silly. The only predictable element of the show is that it will be dumb. I'm not even trying to be facetious or glib here. The show could flip around and just become beat-for-beat Donte may Cry and I wouldn't be surprised.

wow a real smooth brain brainlet.

He didn't even deliver particularly good one-liners though.

My brain is not smooth. If you were to feel my brain then it would feel like a basketball

I thought they were pretty funny at least.

Everyone who was truly pissed off about it has already scrubbed it from memory and no one else cared about it. It's like trying to have a serious discussion about DmC: Devil may Cry. You have to spice it up with some El Donte memes or something or else nobody cares.

What would happen if Donte met Netflix Dante?

"Fuck you."

"Yeah well fuck you!"

"Fuck you? Fuck you!"

"Fuck you. Hey, wanna get pizza?"

"Sure, sounds sweet. Also, fuck you."

"Fuck you."

So I wrote all of this for nothing?

Yes, but not because Anon Babble sucks (which it does). You're TWO MONTHS LATE, anon. Everyone already moved on but you're acting like they're ignoring you.

But if it makes you feel better:

First of all

I think calling them "amazing" is pushing. Decent first two episodes but that's the case with most productions these days

Secondly

They didn't bank on shit, they do this with everything nowadays where they order 1 season structured in such a way that the half-point can be made to look like the cliffhanger end of s1, and if the show does well they use the 2nd half as s2.

Thirdly

They didn't have nearly enough time on screen or were nearly cool enough (if at all) for anyone to care about them.

Episode 6 was

Rabbit in general was a pleasant surprise. A straight villain with a motive that talks fancy and has fun with it is rare these days. Didn't particularly care for his backstory, but it was serviceable.

Dante is pretty cool

Yes, yes he is. So them barely using him after episode 4 was even sadder

The CGI was stupid

Yes, yes it was. Echidna and cavaliere are fairly complex designs but there's no reason not to redesign them (OR MAKE NEW DEMONS ALTOGETHER YOU HACK FUCKS, A REFERENCE FOR THE SAKE OF A REFERENCE IS POINTLESS IF YOU WASTE COOL DESIGNS BEING LAME MINIONS) if you feel you have the artistic freedom to mess agni & rudra's designs by giving their bodies heads.

The vice president

He's far from a subtle character and the metaphor is hamfisted and outdated to say the least, but I don't get what you find hard to understand about it. He's a god-fearing american patriot, and he has the chance to nuke hell. If it'd his religion's hell, it's full of souls yes, but bad people's souls, so it's ok. If it's some other religion's hell, who cares. If it's not really hell but a chaotic alien dimension, who cares. So there's really no case where he doesn't nuke this "hell".

It would be the most wholesome friendship in video game history

Lady's outfit looks like some shit straight out of Voltron

All I wanted to see Dante kill demons in cool and stylish ways

Hes not cool or stylish in the show at all though. He wastes "jackpot" on two straightforward shots to the head

while making as many funny one liners as possible

His one liners sucked though? Are you stupid?

They wrote Dante to talk like Nero and they even got Nero's voice actor for him. Honestly, they should've just outright made it a sequel show about Nero trying to run Dante's business while Dante and Vergil are off in Hell. You even could've used the stupid "The army invades Hell" plot in some fashion, since V gave us a little taste of soldiers fighting demons. Maybe come up with something like the military is pissed off after Vergil caused demon 9/11 (for the second time) and they couldn't do jackshit about it, so now they're getting serious about the threat of demons and they're ineptly elbowing in on Nero's business.
But none of that would've satisfied Adi Shankar's ego because he wanted to rape DMC's corpse for his own gratification, not make a contribution to a living franchise.
thegamer.com/i-thought-i-was-bringing-this-thing-back-devil-may-cry-showrunner-was-sure-the-series-was-dead-when-starting-the-netflix-adaptation/

Shankar then says that once he'd signed up for Devil May Cry, Capcom told him that Devil May Cry 5 was actually in development, something that he was "actually unhappy" to hear. When asked by Omega is this is because he wanted to play it before his adaptation, Shankar admitted that he was unhappy because he thought "the franchise was dead" and that he was bringing it back like he did with Castlevania.

"This was my thing. I thought I was bringing this thing back, and so I was like, ‘Oh! This is a modern f***ing thing! This is ongoing? Then I should have done Street Fighter."

Anon Babble is more DMC centric then Anon Babble is thats the issue.

what the hell was that demon-fighting squad

Its adi trying to reference Captain Commando which is an obscure capcom franchise and cause how in the games the US government basically does jack shit when demons show up so this is basically him addressing that issue.Humans being able to take over hell to where Vergil needs to show up is laughably retarded though and just makes the demons look not threatening at all

Muh allegory and blah blah bla

Because its a forced allegory. In the games there is no Christianity seemingly, barely anyone questioning anything about god or angels makes sense cause they normally don't exist in this series.

dude is legitimately one of the most insufferable people in the industry. how the fuck does he get work and connections?

He gives some of the best blowjobs in the industry

Episode 6 was kinda nice in a vacuum jut I hate how it's obviously the episode the put the more effort on, with the two artsyles, licensed Evanescence song, award bait no dialogue script etc they really were banking into it the being THE memorable episode of the season and Dante isn't even on it.
Just showcases even more how they were more interested in the clash between the Rabbit and Lady while they kept finding ways to take Dante out of the plot. I'm already dreading that since the season ended with him captured and unconscious they are gonna keep him like that just to focus on more useless characters like Darkcom or more terrible political allegories while saving Dante's big hero return for the final part to hype up a third season

Then I should have done Street Fighter

Which has been Capcom's biggest franchise since Street Fighter 4, so he'd been beat to the punch then too.
