Sad news, Elio is gonna flop HARD
Elio
Nobdy even cares enough to insult it
Damn, it really is fucked.
For me, the movie just looks too soft. I don't have the same visceral hate for the bubbly/round art syle Pixar has been going with for years that people have, I actually did enjoy Win or Lose. But it's definitly a style I'm tired of and just makes the film lamer. I wish they could've made the aliens more weirder/threatning instead of giant plush toys.
Could've gone far with it like use the standard rounded style for Elio/the humans and then the aliens are intrioduced and are literally edgier design wise. Kinda like what Wendall and Wild did with the demons compered to the humans ala pic related.
I dunno man, everyone wants new shit and less reboots/sequels. But this just looks fundamentally lame. It's so lame people can't be asked to shitpost it.
sadly that opening weekend figure is optimistic. The budget figure comes from some blogger, but maybe it will be extra confirmed by trade publications. Best hope is it performs like Elemental.
Good, nobody wants this faggot shit
I saw that commercial with the vore joke in the TV and made me very unconformable
I actually did enjoy Win or Lose
the few, the proud. I'm personally a Turning Red schizo and it intrigues me how Domee Shi is involved. Still not looking good as far as getting any attention for Elio though.
I literally have not see a single advertisement for this, nowhere at all and I only know about it thanks to Anon Babble. and this actually makes me sad since this kind of movies just gives hollywood more ammo to claim people don't want new thing, they just want a new toy story every year, not sure if they release mediocre movies knowing this would happen in order to further hype people about same movie #58
I literally have not see a single advertisement for this,
yep this is also an issue. Maybe they're wating for Stitch mania to die down. They did release a crossover trailer with Stitch and Elio in theaters but w/e. It was just Stitch going to the theater then an Elio trailer plays.
I admit, Win or Lose was also a show I also intially had poor impressions of, until the reveal of the Rashomon style storytelling and the stylized aproach of every characters peception/mental state.
It's plausible Elio has some ace in their sleeve they are hiding from marketing but I really doubt it this time around.
First time I've ever heard of this movie. Thinking about it, I don't even know what the previous Pixar release was.
So how much did the budget inflate with those last minute rewrites...
didn't even know it exists. What's the pitch?
$300,000,000 budget
Genuinely what the actual fuck is wrong with Hollywood? I know this movie has had some development troubles, but god damn.
The aliens should have been hot chicks
The movie and the main character look really gay. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if the original director was gay and this was his self insert.
They did not help this impression by using a Queen song in their trailers.
Previous director Adrian Molina is gay I believe, they didn't start using that one Queen song for the trailers until this year though. Last year's trailers with the old release date. m.youtube.com
Major rewrites, pls understand.
We are currently living in a period where a 2D animated Looney Tunes movie with 0 marketing actually made back its budget, yet a big Pixar movie can’t. How the tables have turned.
Why say that now?
Halfway through production they scrapped the entire movie and started again from scratch with a new director and a new script
Reminds me of Dark Souls 2's developement
$300M
There is no artwork, on God's green earth that is worth 300 million dollars.
Even with ungodly inflation there's no way.
Not even the greatest height of human beauty, our greatest testament to humanity, could justify the cost of resources involved in that kinda cash spending.
And they made this movie with it.
This one.
We're being fucked with at this point, right?
This has to be money laundering of some kind.
So are there any cute girls in this movie or is this faggot the only human?
Speaking of that, do we know if that movie was considered a success by WB? The box office numbers weren't great, but they managed to sell it to dozens of distributors worldwide the way they wanted
I don't quite think so, this actually has been getting advertised so people will actually go to see it
The cosmic misadventure introduces Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession. So, when he's beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide, Elio's all in for the epic undertaking. Mistakenly identified as Earth's leader, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions, and somehow discover who and where he is truly meant to be.
the Communiverse
That's the same production cost as Endgame. A 3 hour long, VFX filled movie with an A-list cast.
Gotta be real, they lost me the moment they pulled that tired old 'Aliens misunderstand character stuttering as part of their name/home planet' joke.
How in the fuck did this movie cost 300 million dollars to make?
I know it was the 90s, but wasn’t Toy Story’s budget like 30 million? What the fuck is in Elio that makes it cost 10 times that, and 30 years after CGI animation has existed?
This is why all animation is CGI now. So they can do shit like this.
Really?
Yes Domee Shi and someone else took over as director once Molina stepped down/was removed to work on something else. Compare the first trailer to the most current one, you can see changes such as Elio accidentally getting abducted to Elio actively trying to get abducted because he doesn't fit in, Elio's mom is now his aunt, etc.
The only ones I've seen hyped for this movie are fags on baraag, makes sense that they are attracted to it. Boys in shorts are appealing to shotacons, I learned this from the persona 3 reload design notes
$300 Million fucking dollars!!
Why?! Are they stupid? Just because it's a pixar movie doesn't mean it needs to be that expensive. Did they get Robert Downey Jr to do mocap for the kid or something? Flow's budget was 3million! Even Zootopia's budget was half of this shit.
And I know some brain dead executive is going to blame tik tok and ai for the movie flopping. Instead of wasting 300 million fucking dolars on a movie with no marketing or any fucking redeeming qualities!
Pixar of today seems more concerned with making sure they spend 50 million alone making the river in the background of a shot look as realistic as possible than actually spending money making a good movie
300M for the most mid-looking children's film ever is crazy. Hope some heads roll when this comes out.
be pixar
lay off a shitload of staff like 2 years ago
still have enough money to sink 300 million into a dead-on-arrival retread of several other better sci fi movies
This is now the norm for every other Hollywood production; animated or otherwise. 25-75% of the way through production some suit will take the early material to a focus group or run it through an algorithm and get mixed results and, rather than having confidence in the creative team's original concept, they swap directors, bring in a dozen writers to "punch up the script" and a half a dozen new executive producers to start the project over from basically scratch and try to cobble a finished product together.
Solo is a good example of this - Lord and Miller were three-quarters of the way through principle photography on what all sources at the time described as a fun, enjoyable, space heist adventure that audiences probably would have gone nuts for. Then Lucasfilm balked, the studio fired L&M, and brought in Ron Howard to try and cobble together an awkward, boring, memberberries clusterfuck that ticked all the execs' boxes.
This is just what making movies looks like now, and it both sucks and blows.
lay off
Euphemism for moving to Indian outsourcing.
Pixar is only gonna make sequels from now on.
It’ll get a pity Oscar nomination like Elemental.
You lived to see the complete life and death of Pixar.
I mean, being able to redo scenes faster is better for story development.
that style looks too simple and gay
It was successful enough that they sold the distrubition rights for Coyote vs Acme to Ketchup Entertainment. With the minimal money spent on advertising TDTEBU is certainly gonna reach profitability if it hasn't already.
Disney is about to lose the gains they got from the live action Lilo and Stitch
But they want Kpop demon hunters?
Strange World failed
Lightyear failed
Elio failed
Each one features completely bland human characters with completely unappealing alien worlds/creatures
Why does modern Disney/Pixar keep trying sci fi, they legitimately cannot for the life of them do it justice.
In a choice between mud, and actual shit, people will choose mud, especially if that's still better than they've received as an option for some time.
In theory but we know from experience at this point that in practice it's way fucking worse. Every time you see a film that was redone midway through you know it's going to be dogshit.
Kpop movie is peak yuri/yaoi!
Sounds like the name for a faggy franchise' shared setting or the fandom of said faggy franchise kek
shit or not, Elemental's financial performance is a best case scenario for Elio
so why does the little Grub Hublette havr an eye patch?
Very shit year for animated features.
being retarded enough to believe World of Reels
You can't know the answer unless you've been to Hollywood. It's a strange, evil place that has its own rules.
so I guess the plan is to just keep making more sequels cuz at least when they're bad they still make money thanks to brand recognition.
It also made sure to barely ever show the humans for too long because they looked uglier
Good pixar has always sucked ass.
Genuinely, this is the first time I heard this movie exists.
What's that thing on Elio's eye supposed to be?
I kind of get that, felt that all the main aliens are meant to be marketable.
They can do the same thing in 2D animation, but it would take longer.
The problem with CGI is changing the designs; making those 3D models costs more than animating them.
Shrek sucks fuck you
Adding to what said, the main villains was once one of the many ambassadors, the movie was going for a liar revealed plot (Elio lying about being Earth's ambassador), the villain's son wasn't a character AT ALL, like lordy, I wanna see what got changed/cut once this is all over.
youtu.be
final trailer dropped 4 days ago
view count under 500k
Isn't that low for a new Disney Pixar movie?
happens more often than you might think
Shut up retard
Nope
the budget was nearly $300M
they literally just pulled this number out of their ass.
I need everyone who wants more Pixar originals to support this movie when it comes out. Especially considering their current worry over their originals not doing well thus pushing them to rely on sequels more.
Please see this movie multiple times if you can.
this is now the norm
names one other movie from a decade ago
youtube.com
vs youtube.com
they are the same
I dunno man, everyone wants new shit and less reboots/sequels. But this just looks fundamentally lame.
That’s the issue people do want more new media and less remake/sequel but the new stuff they put out isn’t good so Execs see that and go for the easy money rather than put any effort into making something good
people already moved away from Stitch?
Lightyear's budget was was $200M, is it really that far fetched considering the delay due to rewrites?
Say goodbye to all originals from Disney. After Hoppers is passed it'll all be IP sequel films.
This is the Winnie the Pooh 2011 for originals, we will get none others again
Strange World is so fucking ugly
good.
Oh well.
Lightyear was a Toy Story spinoff.
New ip is $300 million? and barely any marketing??
At some point they're gonna run out off stuff to make sequels/live action adaptations of.
Lightyear was a Toy Story spinoff
True but it wasn't very Toy Story-like at all and being sci-fi I thought bringing it up made sense. Their last few movies including orginals like Elemental have had similar budgets in the $200M range so maybe I should've mentioned that instead. As for the marketing, they've been ramping it up since the middle of May but you bring up a good point. I think the straight to disney+ movies had more marketing.
At some point they're gonna run out off stuff to make sequels/live action adaptations of.
GET READY TO RETURN TO THE WORLD OF ALADDIN, BUT THIS TIM, IT'S ABOUT HIS KID
A young, spunky yet quirky lass, inspired by the adventures of her dad, she wants to see the lands beyond Agrabah!
They already do that kind of sequels
the budget was nearly $300M
So it was actually closer to 600M huh?
We need NEW IPs to draw in audiences!
...but let's not do anything too wild, artistically, narratively, or conceptually.
can't alienate our target demographic of every single demographic all at the same time, globally.
Please pay to see this movie.
Pixar is too big to fail
God willing.
Alien tits isn't gonna make back 300 million dollars
I wouldn't watch this if someone paid me
I would have watched it if not for calart style.
and some hot milf aliens would have help.
that shot going right up his hole
Interesting to see Disney cater to the gay pedophile market.
shota vore
seriously?!
Mei's panda form, her grandma's panda form...ALL the aunts' panda forms...and Mei's mom's human form.
Hoppers?
300 million
for sad brown kid show
they grossly overestimated the amount of people who wanted more of that.
aliens can't be cute girls
you get NOTHING
you LOSE
THREE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS
I have zero doubt the final cost of this piece of shit is actually far worse than that, but the real head-scratcher is that they had enough faith in this premise to stick with it for this long, and then scrap it all, start over, still have it be miserable shit, and still believe it was worth it.
The whole idea boils down to "quirky kid with an eyepatch meets some aliens, shenanigans ensue" and somehow they thought that was worth throwing money into the pit for, over and over.
Startrek had 2 flavors of cat people, I think there was a third in a special but don't quote me on that, if people don't add cat aliens or centaur/hexapede bioformes they are just lazy.
Isn't the head of animation some woman with terrible taste and a fixation for broken families/generational trauma?
Because that would explain a lot.
Yeah this is just turning red for homos
It went from a liar revealed story to a boy and his dog, but the dog is sentient.
steven universe but cgi and uninspired looking
This will bomb and Pixar will conspicuously confirm Toy Story 93 and Cars 31
The film's premise sounds like a mediocre movie or TV show episode from the 90s or 2000s. I cannot fathom why they spent so much on this film.
since they bought pixar, they gave them an blank check
it's to keep the studio going so they can make toy story 5 and Monsters inc 3
early tracking
So this is marketing. They're imagining they're already going to make a lot of money so feel people like they should go to be a part of the crowd.
gay
because this, like every other film thats going to come out soon, beagan production over 3 years ago. When studios were firmly under the impression that the public wanted lots of marxist homosexual messaging in their family movies
That's not a good projection for a film with this budget. The opening weakend is virtually always the peak.
I have a hunch that Elio will end up like Wish where people will talk about the original draft of the film more than the final product.
It was just Stitch going to the theater then an Elio trailer plays.
Sad how they don't bother trying anymore.
anymore
With human designs like that, I'm not surprised.
was wish's first draft all that different? I know brave was drastically different
Boys in shorts are appealing to shotacons
You know who else likes boys in shorts? Little girls and boys wearing shorts. What's your point, r-tard?
That kind of joke peaked with Idiocracy, and should've been retired afterward.
youtu.be
The destroyer of marriages.
The Star was originally depicted as a shapeshifting shota, the King and Queen were an unabashed villainous power couple, and the conclusions of the plot were less ham-fisted and retarded. It was also going to be proper, actual 2D animation and not whatever the fuck that was.
I mean, you can only make safe boring movies for so long that even the lowest common denominator gets bored of them.
how do they keep making movies worse with each rewrite?
Hollywood refuses to accept that, they're going to drive the reboot/sequel/remake/prequel/reimagining/design-by-algorithm train into the motherfucking ground.
AIMEE WAS THE SMARTEST GIRL AT SCHOOL
NOT VERY POPULAR
NOT VERY COOL
Jennifer Lee is to blame. She doesn't like romance, she doesn't like women losing or having real hardships.
She cut most of Kristoffs plot in Frozen 2 about him proposing to Anna with a cut song, then revealing halfway through that he hates life in Arrendale and it's making him miserable
they started over because originally the director was going to make an analogy of his childhood (like Turing Red or Elemental) but then the higher ups said "nah lets just make normal movies again"
The more you workshop and rewrite a movie, the farther it gets away from being the vision of one person or one team. Some change is always necessary, a plot has to be reworked to make more sense, or an actor finds inspiration for a new scene or arc that strikes a chord, etc. but when you start basing the rewrites on "what will play best with the algorithm" or "what do the focus groups say will net us the highest return on investment" then you're inevitably going to end with one project after another being driven towards samey, boring, risk-averse content.
In Wish's case, because it was originally a regular ass Disney movie that was retooled to be the big 100th anniversary film and when you look at the message according to staff interviews, it's basically a celebration of the concept of business networking.
i just want to know why Boso Ta is in this movie.
