Sometimes Dexter acted as if he literally never left his lab, other times he was perfectly comfortable being outside.

Samurai Jack was a better show anyway.

She isn't. She's literally one of the show's biggest antagonists. The winning fan script for a season two episode was one where Dexter spent half the time calling her "stupid".

it was literally the first western cartoon to take interesting sci fi concepts and use them effectively for comedy. What came before it? The fucking Jetsons?

Dexter's problem is mainly he's using hard science fiction for everyday tasks and oblivious to the chaos he causes to the Janitor, Mandark, and even others. Mandark is capable of genuine empathy whereas Dexter isn't a people person. He has no friends or family.

CONTROVERSIAL: I don't think Dee Dee is stupid, just not hyper-intelligent.

At least not until the revived series. The revived series casts her as a dunce, which is sad.

I'm not sure about likeable, but maybe "relatable" to some as I recall Genndy explaining somewhere that much of Dee Dee's belittling behavior stems from his insecurities.

Genndy's was the more art inclined child to his brainy brother and felt increasingly unsettled as they approached their professions.

Dee Dee similarly was the only child with nothing to prove at first, and was even overjoyed when Dexter was born as she thought he'd be her compliant playmate, but when he begins to prove indifferent to her and capable in whatever he put his mind to the division starts.

Some might think this a stretch since she usually just causes chaos with no seeming reason and gleeful abandon, but there's a scene where Dexter ridicules her about being simpleminded and she suddenly goes on a rant about being prettier, taller and having more friends than him. So she's mostly acting out, she doesn't hate Dexter, just how Dexter makes her feel small.

There are other scenes where if something or someone is troubling him she's concerned, and other scenes where she even showers him with affection when he's nice to her, but the sibling rivalry resumes whenever the moment passes.

Yeah, like in one episode Dexter deems everything not productive a waste of time, yet in the next episode he is mad he can't get a copy of a video game. Other example is how he has no friends and wants to befriend another kids who exploit him, then in the next episode he has equally nerdy friends who can't stand his arrogance yet still tolerate him (kinda like Sheldon in TBBT)

It's funny when bad things happen to a character in cartoons, whether they deserve it or not and Dexter frequently does.
