Personal theory: we know Zimmy is an "etheric generator". We know the ether makes unreal things real, and that the world is a "dead thing" without it. Zimmy also makes things that otherwise couldn't exist "real". Entire worlds, even.
Humans are obsessed with the ether - it's why religion is a thing. The spiders are obsessed with Zimmy. What I think, is that the spiders are a sort of primitive version of "belief"/religion"/"ideas" specifically tuned to Zimmy's version of the ether. They nestle in people's minds and make them act strangely - just like how belief in the supernatural nestles into your mind and causes us to act irrationally.

It's possible that Annie actually wants that and this is part of her plan.
They might be talking etherically. Since Annie couldn't have known she'd be talking to witches, perhaps Kat is able to 'patch people in' to the ether communication. Perhaps Annie's plan also doesn't require the other party to know about her plan and Kat is simply tracking them in some way.

I'm not sure this is actually correct. Zimmy definitely tries to avoid them in Zimmingham and the whitelegs never leave their nest in zimmingham. I think they are literally just some evil deity or spirit that is trying to escape Zimmingham and Zimmy is keeping the rest of the world safe by trapping them in there. I think the terrible thing she did is most likely letting them loose.
The reason they made Jack obsessed with Zimmy is that the singular spider that hitched a ride on Jack was probably trying to return to Zimmingham to free the other spidersas well. Perhaps the whitelegs still need to mate in order to produce offspring, so it wouldn't be able to spread on its own.

Can Omega change her appearance

No, so far there's no evidence Omega can change her appearance. She was a skeleton with a bunch of computer parts in her until the distortion gave her the body of a New Person that vaguely looks like Zimmy. So far she's changed outfits but not her physical appearance.

Also, Omega can't travel anywhere in the distortion by herself, she has to grab others like Tony or Shadow and use their memories to travel. She wouldn't have been able to get to Jones by herself like Annie did at the start of the chapter.

It should! Annie knows Omega can hear everything she says, so getting the witch coven kidnapped might be a factor in her and Kat's plan. Or maybe she's expecting Omega to try and Kat made a tiny tracking device Annie could discretely throw onto Omega's clothes. Zara can locate Omega with her magic too though, so even if Omega doesn't show up they'll know where to look for her.

What are you talking about? What adults tried to find info about Omega? Also, the only reason that the kids know about Omega is because Omega told them. The whole reason Omega exists is so she could meet Annie, so of course Annie would find out who Omega was eventually.
